Band of Misfits League 2

[quote:f00bc9f097="jugslavin"]Would certainly like to hear input from owners on the topic of division alignment, etc.

It would be nice for rivals to be in the same division. On the other hand, how would you manipulate the divisional setup? My lack of franchise league expertise is showing here!

Also, we could up the cap to $100M, however, it seems almost certain to help the top teams and be yet another handicap for the rest. I'm inclined to stay @ $80M.[/quote:f00bc9f097]

The most fair way to align the divisions would be the same as the draft order. First 4 in the east, etc. The last teams to be selected are going to have a very difficult time competing, and if they are in a division with one of the first teams drafted, the season is probably already over for them.

As for a $100M cap, that would be insanely ridiculous for all but the top teams, and would render the whole league pointless in my opinion. By the 10th or so pick, there probably won't be teams left that you could spend $80M on, much less $100M. A $60M cap would make the league fair and competitive, and everyone would have an nearly equal chance. The higher the cap, the more unbalanced this will be.

Another way to balance things would be to let the later teams in the draft pick an extra player or two from the free agent pool after the draft. For example:
Team 1 through 12 get 2 players from the player draft based on team record as we discussed.
Teams 5 through 8 would get one extra free agent pick in addition
Teams 9 -12 would get 2 extra free agent picks

If we did this, I think it would level the playing field and it would then be fair to allow the divisions to align in whatever way we want.

If anyone knows Shane Conley, perhaps you could attempt to contact him and see if he's ready to chose his team. Would be happy to enter it for him if he's not able to get online just now.

Thank you!

A thought in relation to waivers:

On the one hand, it would seem that we don't need them because of the limitations on player selection. On the other hand, it might be nice to have a couple of days for trades to be made before the two-player draft occurs

A waiver period would serve, in effect, as a pre-draft trading period. Trades could, of course, occur after the draft, as well. But I think the draft may be more meaningful if there is time to consider trades first.

Still trying to reach John Bamberger. Can't be found so far. Meanwhile, for all who've already selected a team, go ahead and draft your club and load it into the "Band of Misfits League 2". This is a private league and the password is "ragtag".

Concerns about division selection have been expressed but I really feel whichever division any of the first 8 teams selected ends up in works fine. The first selection, the Yankees, won 95 games. The 8th selection, the Twins, won 94 games. The top winner in the Majors in 2010, the Phillies with 97 victories, was selected 5th. However, I will refrain from loading my Cardinals until those first 8 are in out of fairness to the final 3 teams drafting.

Please use the proper stadium with your team ie: the Yankees in Yankee Stadium, the Giants in AT&T, the Phils in Citizen's Bank, etc. Also, since it is a franchise league, please use the nickname of your franchise at least in some way. My team will be the Moss Beach Cardinals playing in Busch Stadium as a for instance.

I think we could wait a day or two before holding the supplemental draft. If you object, please speak up. We could also do away with waivers and hold the draft whenever. I'm open on this.

DH League?

Postby Brent65 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:47 pm

You mentioned the below in an earlier post:
"Also, in fairness to those who pick an AL team, this will now be a DH league. NL teams could use one of the supplemental draft picks to secure a DH, if necessary"

However, after reviewing the league set up, it looks like it was set it up for No DH?
