Old situation thread

Hecho--the only problem with the cable company is the government enforces the monopoly--there is no competition allowed on certain things. Those 3 areas you just mentioned are government owned or govt protected. They would make it woth your while if there were a viable competing product. Look at cell phone companies. Electronics. Credit cards. Auto sales.

Then you get back to screwed up things with too much government tinkering or intervention. Medical care. Public transportation. (because of the large sunk costs/economies of scale)

And yes there are Enrons out there--but you know what? The tax laws in this country are so complicated that it enables obfuscation of the ttruth--you need high powered brains to find the trail. And let's not forget lots of those fortunes people lost were earned with[out] blood sweat and tears--easy come easy go--I know no one came knocking on my door when shares skyrocketed--except the govt when it wanted cap gains. Funny no one came knocking after it plummeted. But hey--it was all on paper--I never "earned" it.

God knows I hope they keep their hands off the internet.

qk--exactly. In this land of business opportunity, there's always a price and who better to buy-in than the folks who know the customer base from the inside. It's not farfetched at all. There's lots of precedent.

Appreciate the update, Bernie.

I have had scary flashes of strange thoughts like, [i:ea61689a99]I might actually have to get a life and clean up around the yard, spend some quality time with loved ones, pay some bills, or at least open the mail, and things like that.[/i:ea61689a99] And, addictions are rough.[i:ea61689a99][/i:ea61689a99]

This reminds me of the NHL strike last year, other Canadians will sympathize with me.

in fact maybe that's what's going on... all those guys we consider to be good value think they're getting screwed over and want Randy Johnson money.

QKsilver,

you are dead on...TSN's financial troubles will definetly cause us as SOM fans some serious heartache down the road if we remain complacent. But I must admit that I think that SOM is a decent money maker for TSN I mean there is very little overhead no physical product just a server with a couple of thousand customers who must spend $100,000 - $1,000,000 to play this game even if they have 50% margin TSN is a money maker. TSN should really strive to take care of us and figure out how to market us effectively we could give them a major boost!

Infact that makes a good case for someone starting a business out of this thing. I guarantee that it would be a good money maker for a Techie/SOM fan! And there is defintely a loyal sport audience to market too here. I am surprised that we dont get free teams for referring others to SOM TSN....that would really help there target audience to grow.

They need to get this fixed ASAP bottom line. The longer this goes the worse it gets for them. In fact I bet that Penngray is already looking into starting another SOM SIM league!

Now, if it was only sunny and 75.

Here's a perfect example...I flew to the west coast on JetBlue last week. Because of high headwinds, the direct flight from JFK to Oakland became a one stop flight, as we needed to take on more fuel in Salt Lake City. This certainly in no way reflected poorly on JetBlue management - it was weather. But the flight wound up arriving almost three hours late. Not a huge issue for me, as I didn't have a connecting flight from there. But, JetBlue sent me a voucher today for $25, for use towards a future JetBlue flight, because they sure would like my business to stay with them.

Wouldn't it be nice to get something along these lines form TSN??

Dear William,

Thank you for flying with JetBlue Airways on flight #101 from New York's JFK on February 17, 2006. We regret that we were not able to operate your flight as scheduled because of the fuel stop in Salt Lake City. We sincerely apologize for your late arrival and the inconvenience the situation may have caused you. As always, our foremost consideration in these cases is for the safety of all our customers.

As a gesture of apology and goodwill, we have issued each customer on your flight a $25 JetBlue electronic voucher. When you would like to use your voucher, please call 1-800-JETBLUE with your confirmation number XXXXXX for this flight. The voucher is for you and is non-transferable. JetBlue vouchers are valid for one year, can be applied towards airfare on JetBlue Airways reservations only and are not redeemable online or towards JetBlue Getaways vacation packages.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to a future opportunity to welcome you aboard JetBlue Airways.

Sincerely,

JetBlue Airways
