Hecho--the only problem with the cable company is the government enforces the monopoly--there is no competition allowed on certain things. Those 3 areas you just mentioned are government owned or govt protected. They would make it woth your while if there were a viable competing product. Look at cell phone companies. Electronics. Credit cards. Auto sales.
Then you get back to screwed up things with too much government tinkering or intervention. Medical care. Public transportation. (because of the large sunk costs/economies of scale)
And yes there are Enrons out there--but you know what? The tax laws in this country are so complicated that it enables obfuscation of the ttruth--you need high powered brains to find the trail. And let's not forget lots of those fortunes people lost were earned with[out] blood sweat and tears--easy come easy go--I know no one came knocking on my door when shares skyrocketed--except the govt when it wanted cap gains. Funny no one came knocking after it plummeted. But hey--it was all on paper--I never "earned" it.
God knows I hope they keep their hands off the internet.
