I was under the impression there was not a supplemental draft - it was an autodraft listing your base players and supplemental wants.

There is no draft order or supplemental draft. Reminder, those supplemental players are restricted free-agents and can only play for former/current teams. You que your auto-draft based on your preference of players as usual. Remember, your team has exclusive rights to all your base players and no one is allowed to draft them or have them at any point during the entire season. You really just need to focus on ranking your restricted supplemental players that used to or currently play for your base team. Well traveled supplemental players that have played for multiple teams in this league would be fair game for each of his former teams if he is not currently on someone's base team. This is where the strategy starts to unfold as you construct your roster. This is called gamesmanship! Waivers will be used to correct HAL's auto-draft screw-ups.

I will send out the password to the east teams once the league is full. Reminder you must play your base team's stadium exclusively.

Re: trade clarification question...

[quote:aa5f1dd929="mbrake"][quote:aa5f1dd929="2cityfan"]mbrake.. I am not sure I fully understand your trade guidance above...

If teams trade base players, does that impact the number of allowable supplemental players? For example if the Dodgers trade Furcal to the Braves for Andrew Jones.. (both Furcal and Jones have been both Braves and Dodgers so this trade should be allowed); does Furcal count as a supplemental free agent against the Braves allowable total... and same question for the Dodgers.. does Andrew Jones count against the Dodgers allowable total of supplemental free agents?.. Please advise..

thanks[/quote:aa5f1dd929]

All players belong to their base card team exclusively. In this particualr case, (since the Braves & Dodgers are both in the league and thus are considered base teams), then A. Jones is a base player for the Braves and R. Furcal is a base player for the Dodgers. They can only exclusively play for their base team the entire year. They are off limts to [b:aa5f1dd929]ALL [/b:aa5f1dd929]other teams by any means of acquisition (e.g. ineligible via draft, waivers, free-agency or trades) throughout the entire season. They are the sole property of their respective base team.[/quote:aa5f1dd929]
Just walked home from the library and Starbucks on a beautiful day and realized that this was what the rules stated in the original post.

Thanks for the clarification mbrake

mbrake, I like the concept behind this league, so thanks for starting it. But I think managers should be allowed to trade base players providing the traded players count toward the supplemental limit, and the base players played/or are on the team they are going to. I am not against the challenge of building a roster with only a limited pool of players to pick from. Believe me the White Sox have plenty of challenges even with 10 supplemental spots. But I think allowing this trading would add to the strategy and roster building challenge of the league without violating the spirit of the "reality bites" theme. Without allowing this type of trading, trading is truly not allowed for all practical purposes..

What are your thoughts mbrake?

trades could occur after the draft to send players to teams that should have them as supplemental choices

i've looked at the cubs situation as this league started and has changed here on the boards

not everyone is going to get everything they want

i took the cubs because they are my team

i could have chosen another, dropped out or switched, but i'm keeping them for that reason

i don't oppose the trade(s) you've outlined, but mbrake stated it in the original post and clarified it also

If I allow trades involving base players that circumvents the whole strategy. As the owner of the Red Sox, I am facing the most stringent transaction restrictions with only one supplemental player being availble to me at any given time. The true intent of the league is to see if you can manage the "real" team's roster with their respective limited resources, warts and weaknesses. The supplemental players are only a tool to put teams on the same playing field salary-wise. If it's wide open free wheeling and dealing you like to see, then this league will disappoint you in that regard. If you want to see if you could do a better job with the White Sox than Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams, then this is for you.
