[quote:1f781cf63c="LMBombers"]TSN needs to concentrate on finding people willing to pay for teams. The price of this game has not gone up since it's inception years ago while the price of everything else sure has. I have no problem with the current pricing structure.

Lowering the price of a single team from $25 to $20, for example, isn't the key to start having a flood of new paying customers nearly as much as marketing the game to people unaware of its existence in IMO.[/quote:1f781cf63c]

Bombers is absolutely right, it's not the $25, it's getting the unknowing to discover this great game. $25 for an 8 week season is $3 a week, tremendous value!

It's both.... TSN needs to get SOM more exposure & it's also that the price is too high.

Some things still haven't changed...

Keep the 70s!

Howdy,

Were the 70s to get the "axe", TSN may well lose this loyal customer.

130 teams

Postby willmurr24 » Sat Jun 04, 2011 3:49 pm

stratomatic has teams from 1880 to present available on their computer game, why can't your game also introduce all 130 season? Think of the keeper league possibilities.Play six games per night (optional) to help the years pass by.Imagine running a keeper league from 1905 to present. The money will roll in

as I said on your post in the other thread....I love the idea. 100 year franchise league.....at a hugely reduced price, otherwise it's like $2000 or so.

All the improvements to the game and all the price reductions will fail without some coherent and potentially aggressive marketing plan.

Scenario #1: Prices are lowered by 50%. Some vets up their play, and some existing players double down. It will NOT produce 2x game play without a trumpet to attract new customers.

Scenario #2: Bernie gets two underlings, one of whom built the game at Strat, or wherever it was built, and every suggestion on the suggestion list is banged out. Cost of this is probably 200K if they are full time staff, 150K if they are contract staff. Without price reduction, making up that cost will require many new customers, who will not appreciate fixes because they don't know the difference. Again, expanded marketing is key.

Scenario #3: Mixed. Price reduction + Fixes. Additional cost is, uh, 1 extra programmer, so 75K in contract staff, or 100K in full time employee. Price is reduced by 25%. Some of the price people come back, some don't. Some current players up their play (I don't... time/interest are my constraints, not funding). Some retired players prove me right that it's really burn out, not economics. Will still require new customers to cover the cost of the additional help.

At some point, the game becomes about new customer acquisition. That's where the return on investment is. And that's where the Sporting News people are and probably the Strat people as well. It's not produced for the love of the game or the love of the current customers who probably do not produce funding at a sustainable level (if they did, no big meetings happen).

I have an idea

Postby fredpaii » Sat Jun 04, 2011 10:10 pm

I think the proposed bargain rate for newcomers is a great idea. Another thing that would seem to benefit the newcomer and hold their interest is a message board just for them (make it big and make it obvious. JUST FOR THE NEWCOMER and their questions. Certain more senior SOM select veterans would respond as needed to their inquiries.

There are so many things I still am learning about this game and I have played in 20+ leagues to this point. If it wasn't for ARAY0113 I doubt I would still be in this game but he's only one person (first it was Jerlins). Veteran SOM players with the patience necessary to guide the newcomer is very much appreciated AND needed. They are extremely important to the welfare of this game IMO. A good attitude from a veteran player helps the new guy stick around. Man, I sound like a 12-Stepper. :D Please do not underrate this.
