Trade etiquette

One thing that annoys me is this:

You make a trade offer. You see that the other has read your offer. But you get no reaction. Am I the only one to be annoyed by this?

It's really annoying and to great extent quite disrespectful.

Usually I give 24 hours after an offer hs been read. If no respond by then I just rescind and move on.

I normally respond, but there have been offers sent to me that are invalid due to the fact that it would leave me short on players or cash.

If this the case I normally don't respond because the sender should be more aware of the offer being sent. So I don't bother to respond unless he adjusts it. More often then not, I will send a note stating the fact that it is an invalid offer. All he has to do is look at his offer once posted to see if it is valid.

It's simple common courtesy. Someone asked you a question you should respond.

If I'm checking stats and someone has sent me an offer I'll at least reply and let the other person know that I don't have time to evaulate the offer then and let them know when I will be responding.

I agree. All trade offers received should be responded to one way or the other in a timely manner. The person who sent you the offer in many cases is about to make personnel changes and is waiting to hear from you before doing so. When the sender sees that you have read his offer but have not responded yet he doesn't know if you are still considering it or have completely dismissed his offer already. He might not be aware (but should be) if the offer submitted may be invalid due to lack of funds or for roster restrictions.

Amen. Amen. Amen. I may be off base here but there are times I don't mind sending or getting an offer that might violate roster limits in anticipation of another move if the trade is made. Other times, offers may be made to guage interest and precipitate a counter offer. In either case, if there is no interest, it dosen't take much to decline.

Strongly agree with the above comments. Responding promptly is the respectful thing to do. It's also a way to establish a little repoire with your fellow managers, maybe make a friend. Also, ALWAYS RESCIND ANY TRADE OFFERS NOT RESPONDED TO. Those dangling deals can come back to bite you in the you know what.

Setting it straight

Postby BRADSANDBOTHE » Sat Jul 01, 2006 7:47 pm

I guess I should validate what I said above.

I always hit decline if a trade is invalid, I just don't always send a note back to the sender letting him know it was invalid or why I declined.

Don't want people to think I am a rude a**hole.

I agree---irritating as heck...Doesn't take much to hit the decline option...I have occasionally offered a deal that I know will not go through for salary reasons etc., but I always add a comment with something like "Let me know if you want this deal and I'll drop some salary" or something to that effect....Most will respond to that....There are alot of guys out there though that will not respond at all unless they are interested....

I have also had this scenerio happen several times....I make an offer...He counters and I decline the counter, and he immediately accepts the initial offer....Which I guess is ok since I made the offer to start with....I consider this just a manager trying to make the deal a little sweeter for himself..

The worst though is to make a legit offer and get no response whatsoever...At least have the deciency to decline or send a quick note saying not interested or going in another direction on a different trade....After I have seen an offer is read I will usually give the guy a few hours then I wil resind at that time and from that point forward will not do ANY transactions with that manager....I wouldn't care if he offered Pujols for Brazelton---I would not respond.
