I'm not one to complain, but sheesh!! Lost both Ensberg and B. Clark to injuries, so what does Hal do for the final two games? Jeff Davanon at 3rd and Jamey Carroll as my DH!!! Methinks there are some serious holes in the game engine. There were TWO options, neither of which should have involved Davanon being placed at 3rd.
Option 1: Play Carroll at 3rd
Option 2: Play Carroll at 2nd, move Counsell to SS, ARod to 3rd
Either option is what I hoped for when setting up my team for injuries. Why Hal chose to play an OF at third and an infielder at DH is beyond me. Just another reason to have replacement specific settings as a goal for next years game.
def subs

it is one thing to play ausmus at ss with izturis on the bench(ridiculous and terrible and the reason I will never draft ausmus) but at least he has a rating there where does hal get off playing davanon at 3rd with carroll on the team. there is no rhyme or reason for def subs. As bad as the subbing was in last years game I think it is worse this year i dont recall last year seeing as many players in positions that they had no ratings for with suitable subs available

It's not Bernie's fault. The fault lies with Hal Richman and the folks at SOM, who designed "HAL."

No, there is something in the code that repeatetly take a player, where he has NO POSITION and puts him where he doesn't belong even though there are players that play that position.
The only thing I can think of, is it already replaced the DH first with Carrol, and then when looking for a 3b, there was none so it took Davanon?
btw Bernie is too bus with ATG3

I had similar problem lost my 1st baseman and 3rd baseman in same game first hal subbed bruntlett for my 3rd baseman than burroughs for my 1st baseman
why not move bruntlett to 1st at that point the software is in definite need of an upgrade

We should all send letters (low tech letters that require a human to open them) "Personal & Confidential" to Mr. Richman. I'm sure he cares about the quality of gaming, or we would not play an otherwise well thought out game.
This issue however is a major flaw, and leaves the door open for competition - something Mr. Richman is smart enough to understand.
My bet is that eventually someone will offer a similar version (online) of Diamond Mind. The only problem there is: no cards.

Agreed, but I bet that if TSN complained to Hal Richman about these things it would be taken more seriously than if I wrote him a letter. Bernie through TSN has numbers clout.
just imagine

how much better this game would be if the managerial decisions made sense

No shortage of examples...
Recently (as posted elsewhere) I decided to spend .50M on a cheap RF replacement for G. Jenkins and his 590 ABs, since there is no assurance HAL would have played Steve Finley there, who under the rules receives NO PENALTY for moving to RF.
Minor point or flaw? Not really, since it is programmed (or un-programmed) into the game engine that it will ignore its own rules.

I doubt Hal Richman programs/writes code.
