Mase,

You are new to SOM no?

Defense is huge in SOM, as in real life. One thing SOM accomplishes with the way the game is structured is that you can take a good pitcher, put him in a hitters' park with a mediocre defense, and he will have a high ERA, just as he would in real life.

Someone posted a study recently that showed the number of runs per game the 1-5 ratings can affect your team by position. Try to search it out.

In general,

- 2's or better at SS, CF, and 2B.
- 3B and 1B are where you can get a way with less defense.
- avoid 4's in LF.
- the CF arm is important, because it comes into play when there are plays at the plate, alot.

e9's and up in the OF will hurt you. SOme guys say they won't go for higher than an e7 in the OF.

Edit: I meant to say "avoid 4's in LF AND RF.

Here is a thread from April (a few weeks after the 2006 game started) which indicates defense may not be as important to success as it was in the 2005 game where 1's and 2's up the middle were the norm. It would be interesting to hear if managers are having success with 3's at these high chance positions in the current game.
