Def Repl// Or not??

Def Repl// Or not??

Postby LARRYLANG » Sun Aug 27, 2006 7:27 pm

I have Ronnie Cedano and Angel Berroa as my SS's in a theme league of all players under 2mil...They have both produced very well offensively with Berroa vs LH and Cedano vs RH......My question to the vets is this: With a lead would you use Cedano as a def repl for Berroa?? Berroa is a 3e26 and Cedano is a 4e10....Is it better to give up a little range for the lower e rating?? I have been doing it but I sure like Berroas bat in my lineup vs LH.....The league is winding down and I still am in the W/c hunt....If I do get in the playoffs would this be a strategy to stick with?? Help----Strat guru's

I wouldn't. They both stink. Keep your substitution options open by keeping one in reserve IMO.

  Yeah I know they both suck.....I would never use em' in a real league but its a theme....You know what though---Berroa has made only 6 errors and Cedeno 5 thru 144 games as my only SS's....That is not to shabby for cheapo players.....Thanks for the response.

One player does not have any advantage over the other defensively in this case, especially enough to make a substitution. I wouldn't make any late inning change here and lose offensive options.

They may not be giving up errors, but they're surely giving up a ton of hits. You can't afford .50m to get a decent backup? .79m gets you Izturis...

Actually PBTR they are the only decent guys there---with it being a 2 mil and under theme....the decent defensive guys are gone...At any rate we are now past the FA pickup stage.....we are going into the last week today.

No.

According to the defensive value ratings they're pretty much a statistical wash, but Berroa is the choice: 32.21 (3e26) vs. 36.36 (4e10).

In that case, no.

I usually only do defensive replacements in a situation like that for offensive considerations. For instance, vs. a team with an entirely RH pen, I use Schneider as a defensive replacement when Molina starts vs. LHP. Vs. a team with a balanced pen, it's not worth it.

Well PBTR---I have to admit that is something I have never even thought of...(Using a def repl geared toward the oponents bullpen).....Guess thats why I suck at this  :D
