Giving the game up - has become boring

Giving the game up - has become boring

Postby aabilo » Sun Sep 03, 2006 6:29 pm

I just used my last credit for 2006. I have been playing TSN/SOM baseball since it first came out, for the 2001 season. I have had some success, winning 12 titles out of 65 teams, playing about 15 teams a season. The bottom line - the game is not exciting anymore. I do not want to spend an hour or two each night checking my teams and making strategic decisions. Certainly I do not feel the need to spend money on the product. It was fun while it lasted, but if I can free some time away from the computer I'm going to do it. Any thoughts - anyone else feel the same way as I do?

mrdata, I kind of have a idea where you are coming from. I also started playing Strat here in 01 but in the fall of 04 I decided that I should step back for a while. I think it got to the point where I just had too many teams going and the game lost its appeal to me. I am just now ( two years later ) considering playing once again. I played the game at home while I was away from the TSN version but one thing that was really missing was the conversations with the guys here. There are alot of new faces here since I left but it is also great to see many of my friends from the early years of Strat still going strong. I guess what I am trying to say is that if the game isnt doing it for you anymore it is time to step back and let the urge to play it come back to you. It is just that the community here is what sets this version of the game apart from your cd-rom version at home !!! Loob

p.c. A shout out to all my fellow Strat maniacs that I have not talked to in a long time !!!

I haven't been playing for as long as you but I still love this game. I look forward to the new cards in the new games that come out each year. They are always adding bells and whistles to the games too which make it fun.

Are you trying to find out if it is only you? I think if you do something, no matter what it is, over and over for years you can become tired of it. One exception would be Jeepdriver. He eats BBQ every night. I like BBQ a lot but if I ate it every night pretty soon I would never want to eat it again.

If you really did enjoy the game for years I am sure you will be back after some time off. It might be 6 months or even a couple of years but if you really did like it I'm sure you will be back. If not.......then you had a good time while it lasted.

As for me I don't see any slowing down in the near future.

If I were playing auto leagues then I would find it a little boring.

A couple of keeper leagues plus joining a number of theme leagues keeps it interesting. Like Loobee, the friends I've made keeps the competition more interesting also.

This time of year gets a little slow. I've usually played most of the stadiums and I've won my fair share by then. If you only play 15 leagues, I would just play in advanced leagues with good players. There is always a new twist or strategy forced on you by the best players, as they won't allow you to stay in your comfort zone and win. I would also recommend playing the other games(as I do) to break the monotony. Each has it's own unique set of challenges and players to tweak my interest.

In November it will have been 4 years since I started playing SOM at TSN. In that time there have been periods where I got frustrated or angry or quite disappointed with my teams &/or the product &/or the forums, but I don't think I've ever gotten bored.

Just too many different varieties of the game, and I always seem to come up with some odd theme to try. ;)

Or perhaps I just do not get bored that easily ... or am too easy to please? :?

I love the game. To me it incorporates the love of baseball with the challenge of playing a game that you can never perfect. Got to slow down the number of hours though, so maybe some day only have 4-5 teams going.

I still find building a team a good way of keeping me entertained, but I'm finding myself less and less active once the season begins. Maybe it's due to the fact I have too many teams going at once now, as I've been doing a team a week lately to get my team building fix in. I still find myself hanging around for the scores though, so I'm not all that bored with the game itself yet.
