Not feeling good about this team

Postby LARRYLANG » Wed Sep 06, 2006 12:14 pm

Can't seem to get the page to come out right--it says there is an error on the page.....But maybe you guys can figure it out from this link....Other Parks in my div are Commerica-Petco-MM.........My draft was a disaster--I missed on almost everyone....was able to PU Pujols in waivers and since I missed all my stud * pitchers and some good non * guys were there I decided to build around them and go with a 5 man rotation......I am gonna use Shields to SU and Wickman as my closer......Opinions on my pitching staff would be appreciated......My real delima is I feel like with RFK I need more LH bats but there are just not that many decent ones to Pick up....I have thought about dropping Pujols and picking up Adam Dunn to play 1st and that would also give me money to upgrade at SS for Michael Young instead of Eck....I was gonna play Freel in left and use Soriano at 2d  With Thomas as my DH thats about all I can do with Soriano who's bat I really like.....What would you guys do or can this team win without many LH bats in a left slanted stadium??..........................Your Team: Carolina Thunderbirds

my only RFK team has only 1 "power" LH stick (Gibbons) and did just fine. Built it kind of like a Petco team, has the same top 2 as you (missed out on Duke but tried for him).

Try 9766...Not sure if it's the right one or not...It shows up when I put my cursor on my schedule for team ID

That ID worked...

In a park like yours, Soriano AND Eck are a recipe for disaster. Soriano is strictly a DH AND a hitters park guy.

Pujols is awfully expensive at a deep position this season. Other FA's I'd rather see you go with are:

Johnson (With a good backup)
Tracy or Sweeney with a platoon
Kotchman
Johnson
Gibbons
Olerud

There are plenty of good lefty bats still available. Giles, Dejesus, Giambi to name a few.

Interesting strategy with your pen. Wickman SHOULD be OK in 3 out of the 4 divisional parks. I would like to see another cheap R2 guy though. Some of the cheapies include:
Eldred
Orvella
Baldwin (if you face alot of lefties)

I once read that your best player(Pujols) should be favorable in your park and generally I agree with that. Soriano is also terrible for your park. Why would you even consider using him? If your going to use Pierczinski at catcher, you might consider McCann as a platoon mate. Mirabelli???? Wickman as closer is similar to Soriano. It makes little sense to me. It's one thing to try to sneak by with him in Peco, to use him in RFK is asking for a pounding. How about G Anderson in LF as a platoon. Adds a solid LH bat to your lineup. As constructed, I agree with you that you are in big trouble.

For starters, i'd like to see Seo downgraded (Beckett?) and upgrade Mussina to someone beter. Also as Visick pointed out, I don't think your have enough innings for that bullpen. You need another R2/R3 type to eat some innings up. I love your top 3 though, don't change them. wickman will get killed, shields can close, though both times I've used him as a setup/closer his stats were good, but he had a unnormally high # of blown saves, but era and whip were really really good.

Gibbons would be nice, can play 1b or RF, Granderson could work in LF. Giles, if you could afford it for Rf for some obp + a lil pop, there arae decent lefties left. Chavex, Tracy, VMart is perfect at C, L with the BP hr's vs R, and no BP vs L as a RH.

there are many way to go, I don't think Soriano, or even Thomas is the way. I probably agree, though Pujols wil hit anywhere, that that $$ could be spread apart better. Get you pitching staff rounded out FIRST. Make it a pitching team, then the offense has to be just enough not overpowering (look at my link above)

Thanks for the help guys---This one has been kind of tough to put together.....Here is what I have done.......Rotation: (Should have named my team "Young Guns"):

Felix Hernandez
Roy Halladay
Zach Duke
Josh Beckett
Jonathon Papelbon

For my pen--I dropped JC Romero and added Soloman Torres for that extra "R" and can help set up....

To get money had to drop both Albert  and Ensberg  but may be better off in the long run...also dropped Rowand.& Both Catchers--.. So here is what I'll now look like in no order:

C--Victor Martinez
C--Closser (Switch hitter with some pop)
1b--Chad Tracey
2b--Ryan Freel
ss--Juan Uribe
3b--Hank Blalock
LF--Craig Monroe
CF--So Taguichi
RF--Brian Giles
DH--Frank Thomas

Cinton--if backup at 3-ss-2
Feliz-BU at 1b
Everett--DH when Big Frank is hurt..

Hated to lose especially Albert and Ensberg but I added some pretty good lefty bats, helped myself up the middle and help my pen and pitching staff I think anyway....

What do you guys think :?: :?:

1. Much better @ catcher, if your divisional foes throw mostly RH's at you.
2. Tracey needs a platoon, IMO.
3. Freel is a 3 @ 2B, and gets injured ALOT. A bad combo, IMHO.
4. Uribe also needs a platoon.
5. Blalock does as well.
6. Ditto for Monroe
7. Taguchi is fine
8. Giles is a great fit.

I like Cintron and use him because he hits well.
Feliz could platoon @ 1B or 3B. Quinlan is probably a better fit for your park though, or Hernandez from Cleveland.

Everett has got ridiculous clutch and makes a nice backup DH/spare OF.
