Anyone ever win their division with Wells or Hunter as CF?

Anyone have enough talent, luck, and [i:8d260099a4]balls[/i:8d260099a4] to play Torii Hunter or Vernon Wells as their centerfielder in 2006 Strat and win their division? I'm thinking about trying one of them.

If you've had success with one of them, please show a link to your team. Thanks!

I fell a couple of games short with Torii, but it certainly wasn't his fault. In Comerica, he hit 263/320/459 (34 doubles, 6 triples, 21 HR, 75 R, 97 RBI), and threw in 34 SB (albeit 15 CS.) Plus he (unsurprisingly) took home a Gold Glove. He's more versatile this year than he's normally been in the past, when he was very ballpark-HR dependent. Now he only has 2 ballpark HR vs. R, and although he has 7 vs. L, he hits them well even if you throw those out.

He didn't get hurt too much in this season (595 PA), but when he was, I had Sullivan to back up. I didn't feel like Torii's injury factor was really hurting me that much, since I was okay with Sullivan playing, and when Torii [i:74a9c04c56]wasn't[/i:74a9c04c56] hurt, Sullivan still had plenty of other things to contribute: pinch-hitting, pinch-running, and subbing for other injured OFs. And Sullivan isn't the only bench guy capable of giving you all those things. So covering for Torii is not all that tough.

I just can't see paying Wells' price tag; seems like you'd have to be in some crazy lefty-laden division.

My lone championship team in 2006, so far.

I picked up Wells at the midway point of the season. I hit him 3rd. vs LH's and 7th or 8th. vs RH's.

Glenn - like Dean I fell a few games short of winning the division, but Wells was a key piece to my team because 2 of my division opponents were almost entirely LH in their SP. Here is a link to the team. I think that I also hit him about 3/4 vs LHP and 7/8 vs RHP. Another team traded me Wells for Dejesus when he saw my division opponents and also wanted to probably get rid of Wells.

The funny thing about this question is that I lost out on Sizemore in the draft and received Hunter who I never strongly considered keeping.

I won 90-something games with Wells in Fenway, won div. but lost finals in 7. Will add link later.

I know this is off topic, but I'm only counting 1 catcher on this roster. Am I missing something? I thought the site wouldn't let you carry only one catcher.

Onto the topic, however, I will try to draft Torii Hunter next time around (a couple of weeks from now, I suppose) and see if I can A) get him and B) build a winning team around him. We'll see.

Wells. One of my best teams. Lost in finals.

Thanks for the input, guys. I already have Castillo on my team (I love his card) so I think adding Wells on this team might be overkill. Maybe I think I'll give Hunter a try, and carry a decent backup.

Scott, thanks for the props about the Little League world series. I didn't catch my name being mentioned on the air; the only TV piece I knew of recently was an interview a couple of weeks ago on ESPN about whether fat pitchers can pitch without getting hurt. (They can.)

As far as the LL pitch count story goes, it's been very satisfying to see a research topic I've work on for years get put into practice and [hopefully] help a lot of kids throughout the U.S. enjoy sports in a safe manner.

Anyway, back to my Strat team's preseason development. :D
