*** TOP OF INNING 8 ***
SUBSTITUTE 1B- Ryan Howard
0 M.Byrd 3 Strike Out b-0
1 D.Mohr 4 Ground Out b-0
2 C.Floyd 5 Single b-1
SUBSTITUTE PR- Carl Crawford
2 1 J.Gibbons 1 Pop Out b-0

1. Is Crawford a better runner than Floyd? YES

2. Do I want to have a better runner on the base paths, late in the game? YES

3. Is my pinch runner setting left blank, in the manager settings? YES

I'd rather have Floyd in the game. If I wanted Crawford to pinch run, I would have him in the pinch runner settings.

WTF is Crawford doing on the bench?

It's a theme league, the Iron Glove.
(Gotta be a 3 or worse defensively)

I'm platooning Crawford with Mohr. Since I was going against a LHSP, Crawford was sitting. (in CF)

I suspect that HAL wanted to use a PR. Since you had none designated, he opted for the best one available.

Not having a player listed there will NOT deter him from using a PR. When you do put somebody in there, that will be the first choice used given the situation.

What is baserunning set at? Aggressive or Normal by chance? I would suspect conservative might effect the use of PR, but cannot guarantee that.

Normal

"I suspect that HAL wanted to use a PR. Since you had none designated, he opted for the best one available".

Not for nothing but, no offense, that sucks if it's true.

If I wanted HAL to make a damn decision for me, why bother with the player settings?

Not to digress, but for NL leagues, if you leave your PH slot empty, would you expect HAL to NOT PH for your SP in the 8th inning down by 2 with a runner on? What if you already had your PH vs RHP used already and another situation called for a PH vs a RHP? Would you NOT want HAL to PH for Kiko Calero?

Settings are used a guide for the game engine and not a mechanism for controlling every aspect of every decision made by the engine.

it goes back to a checkbox that needs to be added onto the hitter cards

"Don't pinch run for"

Especially in ATG, where no DH is more prevalent.

Having a PH come in for a pitcher, is VERY different than having a position player hit for.

The game engine SHOULD pinch hit for your pitcher, if you're down by 2 in the 8th. That should be a given, golden rule in the engine. That's a black and white situation. (even with PH option unchecked)

Getting back to positional players and if we use Kiko Calero for example, if Rob Quinlan or any other hitter that hits LH's well, is scheduled to bat vs. Calero, he should be pinch hit for. Quinlan, IMHO, should have "Avoid RH's" checked. If I have O. Palmiero on the bench, HAL should use him to pinch hit, for example.

Even if my pinch hitter setting is left blank. As long as Quinlan is set for "Avoid RH's" and Palmiero is set for "Avoid LH's", it should be a no-brainer.

The managerial setting of pinch hitter/runner should be used if you want A specific batter/runner to come in.

The decision's made by the game engine SHOULD be influenced by the game/individual settings. HAL should not make a decision to pinch run for someone, especially if NO pinch runner is set AND that particular player that is being pinch run for has "Do not pinch hit for vs. RH's/LH's". (That must mean the manager WANTS this player in the game right?

ie. Floyd had the "Do Not pinch hit for RH/LH's" checked. I want him in the game.

Getting back on the Crawford for Floyd pinch running...

Did HAL "think" a guy like Floyd (1-13 running) was going to be a slug also on the basepaths? :? :?

If I have a 1-17 who also plays that position, I would expect HAL to make that move and not have an issue with it. If the 1-17 guy was a SS only, I would take issue.
