TSN_35439 2003 league - still two openings after three weeks

Postby jcr54 » Tue Nov 14, 2006 5:16 pm

Nobody must want to play the 2003 season players any more. I learned in a free trial league using those Strat cards, so I got pretty familiar with those stats and signed up for a pay league three weeks ago when the free trial ended. I was the fourth team to join the league, but we still have two openings. The guys who signed up ahead of me must have been waiting well over a month now. Please, if anybody is still interested in playing in a 2003 league, join TSN_35439 so we can finally run our draft.

If there is still a spot there next week I'll definitely enter a team. :)

Thanks. Of course, I hope it has finally filled up before next week, but at the present rate, it probably will still have an opening, maybe both of the ones that it has at the moment.

Letting you know, as requested. I hope the league itself doesn't turn out to be a "train wreck," as long as it has taken to fill. As soon as one more team comes aboard, we draft after waiting a month or more. (The other poster who said it had apparently filled up is in error.) So join TSN_35439 and play the 2003 season cards one more time.

Since you became the 12th manager, you already know it's a DH league. Thanks for letting us draft and begin the season at last!

On another note, this is my very first pay team (played a couple of trial teams, read the forums here and am pretty familiar with the board game), and would like to solicit comments. I know the proof will be in how the team performs, but I'm curious if experienced managers think I did a decent job of building a Shea team and trying to tailor it to my division. Bear in mind that this is 2003 cards, but here is a link to the team:

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2003/team/team_other.html?user_id=117013

Right now, my starting lineup looks like this:

1. Furcal, Rafael (S) SS
2. Posada, Jorge (S) C
3. Helton, Todd (L) 1B
4. Delgado, Carlos (L) DH
5. Wilkerson, Brad (L) LF
6. Cruz Jr., Jose (S) RF
7. Burroughs, Sean (L) 3B
8. Kata, Matt (S) 2B
9. Chavez, Endy (L) CF

Please, nobody flame me if I have violated some sort of protocol by asking for feedback; just ignore me. OTOH, criticism of the team itself is welcome.

Looks like you have the basics down. 2's up the middle; 4 *SP's. Lefty slugging. Excellent arms in the OF. Helton should have a banner year. Unlike the last couple of years when he is left as a FA more often than not, Helton has a good rep for 2003. Here is a team that Socalchiro posted with Helton at the Cell of which you have 2 in your division.

You have zero LH SP's in your division (which is good because your switch hitters will bat lefty at home) yet your hitters are slanted to hitting LHP. Get someone or two besides Delgado who can hit RHP. Preferably RHH's since you currently have none on your team. Ayala and Betancourt are the same pitcher (9R with 6 BPHR's vs LHH). You shouldn't have either one. Those BPHR's will be devastating in your park, not to mention the Cell's. Mateo has 6 BPHR's vs LHH and RHH. You need RP's with few to no BPHR's, especially against LHH's. Get a RP who can get LHH's out.
