I have a current team carrying a rotation of cheap pitchers, and believe me, some have some eye-popping stats.

Take Waechter (9R, 0.66M) for example. A model of consistency, particularly in his last starts: 5, 8, 6, 8, 3...ER per start. He just won his first game....that was game 72. After 10 starts, he has 17, 14, 16, 38...K, BB, HR, and IP...and not necessarily in this order!!! What a chance that I limited him to 35% vs lhp!!!

Another stunning performance comes from Hennessey. Man, I was so proud to have him, probably the only sub-1M card with no hr on it. He proved my choice was right on the money with his "outstanding" 2.27....whip!!! Definitively better vs lh, as lefties only hit for .356 against him. Still, his 10.40 ERA is better than Waechter, but quite unfortunately, this didn't give him more wins!! :?

Milton is another one who pitched beyond "expectations". Game 73 is up, and he has yielded only 11 HR so far. Has only pitched 48 innings as well, but heck! you can't have it all!

T.Smith is my spot starter. Dominated vs lefty players, with his .319 OAVG and 1:10 hr ratio (1 hr per 10 batters faced). I better keep his stats silent vs rh.

The weirdest thing is...I stand on first place (with a 35-37 record  )

I guess it hurts a bit to have a 3e34 playing shortstop

Sounds like your team must be scoring better than 8 runs a game to be competitive with that staff.

I had Adam Eaton & Eric Milton crank out 4.43 and 4.32 ERA's in a 60 mil league for this team: http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2005/team/team_other.html?user_id=12209

...still, that's not quite the same as Eric Dubose consistently delivering 19-4 seasons (regardless of park) at 2.46M. :P

Where's the link to that team luckyman?

I have had Redmon be serviceable as well as sub 2mil guys Weaver, Ohka, Mulder, and Marquis.

ive gotten some great seasons out of Woody Williams including one team where he went 18-2....pretty good for under 2m.

Riggo,
I don't understand why you apparently used a 5-man rotation, instead of using a 4-man and let Redman rot on the bench for the season.

Lucky,
Post a link to your team.

Here's a link to the newly started Three Buck Chuck league, where every team's rotation is five $.50m starters. So far, it's pretty ugly; no $.50m starter looks too good yet. :?

[b:5169b2cfe7]BioMech[/b:5169b2cfe7], that WAS a 4-man rotation. Milton & Eaton were on very quick hook so they average barely over 5 innings per start.

[b:5169b2cfe7]luckyman[/b:5169b2cfe7] thanks for the link. Looks like [i:5169b2cfe7]Garbage Starter Strategy[/i:5169b2cfe7] may be a little harder to implement in 2005. I think that may be one of the biggest changes in this year's cards - you have to work a lot harder to build an effective pitching staff.

I almost always finished near top of league in pitching in 2002 and 2003. That's definitely NOT the case for me so far in 2005! :( My pitching has been waaaaay more inconsistent.

BTW, my no-name rotation managed to support Randy just enough to finish with 90 wins. I fired Hennessey and T.Smith and got Randolph and Hermanson, who both pitched very well. Looking at the stats from the 50-buck league above, it appears that you really need to spend 1.5M in order to get the cheapeast decent SP.
