Questions on Chavez and Carroll

How do you all use Eric Chavez

I am in the second week of a league with Chavez at 3B. I know it is early but his OBP is less than.300.

I drafted him for his Off not necessarily his DEF. I originally had him batting 4th between VGuerro and LBerkman, but have dropped him down to 8th so far. I am in a hitter’s league. I play in the Metrodome and have a MM Field, US Cell and RFK Stadium in my division. Should I expect better with him?

Also, I wnt to boost my OBP at the top of the lineup. I have Jamey Carroll in my LHP lineup. Does anyone have any luck with Carroll at the top of the lineup against RHPs?

Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't use Carroll, neither vs lhp nor vs rhp. On-base is just okay, and the card is excessively too weak to be a first hitter.

Vs lhp, I would have Counsell, Berkman and Gomez (I assume here that Gomez platoons with Catalanotto as your dh) hitting in front of Guerrero, with Redmond and Johnson being #5 and #6 (because of their clutch), and closing with Chavez, Cabrera and Roberts. I know that Counsell struggles, but it's still early in the season.

Vs rhp, you really need to bring Chavez back in the heart of the offense. Personally, I would go with
1-Roberts (adequate on-base, speed)
2-Berkman (best on-base in your team, put him in front of your sluggers)
3-Chavez (rbi man)
4-Guerrero
5-Cattalanotto best clutch
6-Johnson best clutch
7-Redmond
8-Counsell
9-Cabrera

That said, your offense is definitively weak, so considering your depth in the bullpen, I would check in the league if someone is interested to trade some offense for either Rivera and Justin D.

I use Chavez a lot. You are correct about his low OBP. Therefore, I try to use him low in the order, #6 usually. He's one of the best bargains in the game, but not the guy to count on for OBP.

my lineups:

vs. RHP

Cabrera
Counsell
Guerrero
Berkman
Catalanatto LF
Redmond
Moeller DH
Chavez
Roberts

# Moeller is DHing for Catalanotto because Johnson is DLed for 14 games.

vs LHP

Carroll DH
Counsell
Guerrero
Chavez
Berkman LF
Redmond
Gomez 1B
Cabrera
Roberts

I have Gomez playing 1B because of the Johnson injury. I started out with Roberts at the top of the lineup but moved him since he is off to a slow start. Thus far Carroll is one of my best hitters versus LHP.

But it looks like Chavez is still a keeper?

Thanks

Counsell in the second spot

I have Counsell in another league and he didn't take quite as long to heat up. I like him in the 2 spot because he has few GIDPs spots. Once heated up would you still keep him in the bottom spots v. RHP?

Definitively a keeper. And if you're really fed up with him, look for a trade. I am sure there will be buyers.

Bats either 5th or 6th Allstar numbers
