Catcher Injury?

I remember reading somewhere on this board a while back something about if you have 2 catchers, and one gets injured, the other can't get injured until the first returns. I know this is not true for other positions. Does anyone out there know if this is true for catcher or if I am just making stuff up? Thanks.

Hi WPWangfuddle,
I have never had both catchers go down at the same time.

I remember seeing a team linked that had both of its catchers injured.

2nd catcher can't get hurt.
Blue, there was probably a player with a catcher ratings as their secondary position somewhere on the team so technically they had 3 catchers of the team.

Sorry to disagree, but i have had the misfortune of having my catchers get injured on back to back games. Then the day the 1st returned, my 3rd string goes down. A word to the wise, ALWAYS carry 3 catchers. They are often the easiest to injure, and HAL seems to always set them out for the max.

AZ, no need to carry three catchers. IF you only have two, the second one cannot get injured. IF you have three the third can't get injured if the other two are already injured. So, unless you have a reason for carrying that third catcher other than injury, he shouldn't be on your roster.

AZ, you said the day the 1st returned the 3rd got injured. At the time the 3rd got injured you had two available catchers. If you only have two then the 2nd will not get injured.

Interesting ... two people swear that they are right ...
One says the second catcher can't get injured ... and another says he has seen it.
Which is correct?
Thanks,
Doc

Both are correct. The rule is that your last healthy player with a catcher rating cannot get injured. If you have only two, then the second cannot get injured. If you have three, then the second can indeed get injured.... but not the third. And so on. So, having a third catcher as injury protection is unneccessary. If you have him for another reason, then he may be called on to catch if the other two get hurt. Officially, we'll call that the 'Matt Lecroy' risk.....

I would like to see a link to a team that has only two catchers and both with injuries. We've had this discussion numerous times and while we always have anecdotal evidence that it can occur, it's never been shown with a link. I can assure you it has never happened to me and I frequently use two (and only two) high injury-risk catchers. Please understand I am not challenging your truthfulness, I am simply skeptical because this conversation comes up every so often and I've never seen it demonstrated with a link.
