Bunting and hit and run

Bunting and hit and run

Postby RefutationR » Wed Feb 21, 2007 8:53 am

Hello,

I have a smallball team at Kauffman, and I'm wondering about what my strategy settings should be. I have excellent bunters(3 A's, most of the rest are B's) and a lot of speed, so I was thinking of putting aggressive on bunting and hit and running. Does anyone have advice on this? If anyone has a link to a chart that gives the probabilities on bunting and hit and running for the various levels I'd love to see that too. Thanks.

Greg - When it comes to the bunting and hit and run settings, I think the consensus is to be cautious about allowing HAL to take the bat out of the hands of your productive hitters. You'll find a superb indepth thread on the hit and run within the "strategy" message board. Check it out.

How's your clutch?

Bunting and H&R -and Stealing can trigger Clutch a bit more often IMO. If you have terrible clutch I'd take it easy on the heavy use of he strategy.

I wouldn't go agressive with bunting.

Besides H&R and Bunting, how's your OBP?

Do you have a good slugger -or two?

Why don't you send us a link to the team, maybe then we can look into it.

I don't have any sluggers per se, b/c I felt it would be a waste in Kauffman. My best hitter is probably Brian Roberts. I have had a lot of success with teams like this my short strato career, but I've never had the bunting ability that I have on this team. Here it is:

Only just started, and not panicking just yet over the record, just wondering if I can squeeze out a few more runs by tweaking the manager settings.

Greg, I'm afraid your team lacks too much slugging. You can hit & run and bunt until the cows come home, but I don't see anyone driving in any runs. Remember, you are going against better than average pitchers in these leagues. The chance for consistent "small ball" rallies will be a huge challenge.
Your first 6 games may be indicative of your team. You have a high batting average but low scoring output. When your team enters slugging ballparks you will most likely get eaten up on the road. However, since you have built this team of speed and banjo hitters, see how they do the next 20 or so games. If things are bleak, I would take the 20% hit and go after guys with some clutch hitting and slugging to complement your OBP/speed guys. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. You may be right, but I've done 2 teams kind of like this and got to the finals both times. Only difference is that this time I got an elite SS and 2B, whereas before I just went cheapo at those positions and used the money elsewhere.
