You might be referring to the pitcher bunting ratings.

Pitcher hitting card ratings are located right of center after the "e" or error rating. Pitchers are rated from 1 to 8. They are also rated "W" meaning weak, cannot hit a home run to "N", natural power, can hit a home run.

1 is the worst on base. Oddly enough, 5 is the best on on base with the 3 column consisting of hits and a walk.

Pitcher cards 6, 7 and 8 have home run solid and home run split chances.

Example: 1WR - pitcher has lowest hitter rating, is weak and bats right.
8NL: pitcher has highest power hitter rating, can hit a home run on own card and off the pitcher's card and bats left.
5NR : pitcher has highest on base rating, has natural power but can only hit a home off pitcher's card and bats right.
