Improving your performance through ratings?

Postby joethejet » Sun Mar 11, 2007 10:10 pm

Hello All,

If you're looking for a way to improve your results by understanding the cards better and how to rate them, I just wanted to make you aware that I have been providing services that might help out.

In case you're curious, some of the guys who have purchased my 200n ratings in the past are: Riggo Drill, Woods, etdefender, Play By The Rules, stevep107, Kaviksdad, akIndian, and jaydingess.

Some ATG3 guys are: Petrosian, wjanssen, bobby, irish iii, PBTR, greyhound, Jablowmi, rob55, and juma.

The guys who have purchased JTJ ratings have been very appreciative and mostly successful (see the site for their comments) so I wanted to let others know that it's available if they are so inclined.

I think there are also services provided by Luckyman and maybe others. This certainly isn't the only way to get an understanding, but I just wanted to make people aware it's available in case they didn't know. Even if you don’t use our system, I believe it’s important to have *some* type of rating system with which to compare players.

I'm offering:

- Files containing all the stat calculations for the players along with my
Ratings for all eligible players. Among other things, the ratings take into account hitting, power, ob, fielding, stealing, running, wild pitches, balks and T-ratings.

- Value Ratings for Teams (including specific comments on strengths,
weaknesses, and areas for improvement) and if requested, entire Leagues.

- Ratings are available for all 200X, 1969, and ATG3.

Ok, now the bad news, I charge a modest fee for these services. Here's why:

- It takes time to generate the files. The only way I can justify the time
to myself (and my family) is to get compensated for the time.

- I don't think it's fair to the guys who put a lot of time into do the
calcs to just give it away

- The JoeTheJet ratings system took years for Wineman and I to develop and fine tune. We've been playing SOM for a combined 60+ years and we think it's a dang good way to evaluate the players.

If no one is interested, no problem - my day job keeps me plenty busy

You should be able to get all the info you need at the web site below. Or,
contact me at ( joethejet at iwon. com )

I know some don't like that I do this and I'm sorry if this offends you, my
only intent by this post is to let others know that there is a service
available if they're interested. If not, fine by me, I can spend more time
on my own teams!!!

I just looked over your website.

If I was to purchase a "canned" park far let's say Wrigley 59. I would receive a report that lists a rating for each player (hitter/pitchers) in that park? and suggestions about which players I should draft?

I am just trying to get an idea of what exactly you are offering.

Thanks.

Just wanted to put in a plug for Joe's rating system. There is no question that it has helped me to become a better SOMer. I highly recommend his ratings system.

Kind regards,
Steve

Thanks Steve!

Madigan, the file you get has ratings for every player at each position they play, broken out by position and also a tab with everyone.

The suggestions for who to draft come along with a team rating wherein I do a team rating for the team and then, if it's an "in depth" rating, go into each position and talk about what I like and don't like and give you some things to think about. Guys like PBTR and Riggo used this service frequently, but they have gotten to the point that they don't need me anymore. Wink

You can get a lot of the same feedback on the forums if you choose also. I think it's probably just a bit more hit and miss.

Does this answer your questions?

Yeah that answers my question. I have two teams that have just started but I would consider using your service for my next team.

I think it is cool that you took the time to put this together. Have you or anyone else put together a report of strat standing and statistics and then compared it to MLB?

I did it for whatifsports.com I used several simulated seasons and compared the correlations of stat categories to MLB. The simulated season were way off.

I can vouch for the fact that using JTJs rating system is a good tool to help improve your skill level at the TSN/SOM game.

Thanks AT!

Madigan,

Well, I have to credit Wineman for his tenacity when we first starting putting this thing together. I've just sort of run with it after he did the initial groundwork.

I've never done any kind of comparison like you describe, but it doesn't surprise me that it would be off. I mean, you start off with pitching being only 50% of the game (actually less than than since all the Fielding comes off of the pitcher's card also).

Still SOM is a fun system and it's close enough for baseball nuts like us! ;)

PRICE CUT

Postby joethejet » Sun Sep 30, 2007 12:44 pm

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've cut all the prices for the 2007 and ATG3 ratings in half for the parks I've already done.

Since many of us got a free credit, this might be a good time to try something new.

It's only $9.75 for 2007 and $9.25 for ATG3. Check it out and let me know if you're interested or if you have questions.

Thanks,

Jet

Riggo,

Good to hear from you! I thought maybe you'd dropped off the SOMO forums.

Thanks for the kind words.
