It might be because of Edgar Gonzalez.

Its a typo.

On the ratings disk, if a pitcher has an "*", that means he is a lefty. For instance Bedard is shown as [b:eddc137252]Bedard,E*[/b:eddc137252]. There are 3 pitchers on the disk with an "*" who are RHP: Gonzalez, Anthony Reyes and Jered Weaver.

On the disk Weaver, and the other two, show up like this: [b:eddc137252]Weaver*,J[/b:eddc137252], with the asterisk after the last name instead of the initial.

Somewhere in the transcription/data entry process they got the "*" added inadvertently. Here is a box score with Weaver with the "*".
