Which 1st? Hell Freezes; or Hal Effectively Pinch Hits

What am I missing? I cannot get Hal to pinch hit. It's weird at this point - all of the logical setting are in place, but Hal refuses all suggestions to pinch hit.

I use:

"avoid L"
"avoid R"

I have pinch hitters set up in the management section. But my buddy Hal refuses all suggestions. What am I doing wrong?

as far as I know he won't ever pinch hit earlier than the 8th inning for a DH league. Even then, you have to be within a run or 2. Otherwise he leaves everything as is.

Somehow I thought this year might be different with Bernie's tweaks. Because Hal seems so limited in this area, I have had a tendency to avoid one sided cards, and excessive platooning.

This is good (lack of pinch hitting) in a way, because it exposes weaker teams.

At the same time, I've noticed a lot of cheap LFs this year who would make for a good platoon. Especially against US Cell teams.
