Bonds or Chipper as DH?

Postby JohnnyBlazers » Sat Apr 14, 2007 10:58 pm

Bonds card has better OBP and HR rolls, but that 1-8 means he will clog up the bases. Chipper has great SLG as well ands runs better at 12. Both have a 3 injury rating and are priced about the same. Who would you rather have as a middle of the order threat at US Cell ? It's been my experience that high OBP guys doesn't translate into a high batting avg. and walk more than getting clean hits to drive in guys. I already hve high OBP guys at the top of the lineup-considered Bonds as a 1 or 2 hitter....but that 8 as a runner. Any opinions? Thanks

Without knowing rest of team its hard but you play in a homerun park do you really wont to risk taking to many extrabases running.Bonds in the 1 or 2 hole should be getting on and waiting to trot around the bases when sluggers come up. As a 4-5-6 hitter i think both do just fine.

my 2 cents

Good question. Not sure how much the running #s matter in an extreme HR park. BA also less important. One other consideration: Bonds is + clutch with low DP risk, Jones - clutch much higher DP risk. I like Bonds. But why choose when Chipper is good to go at 3B?

at the cell, or any other significant hr park, I would take bonds every time. despite only being able to dh (unless you'd dare use THAT in lf!) he's underpriced...AND...he gives you an amazing and rare lh power bat against lh pitching, while chipper automatically turns around to his weaker side. he seldom makes it past the 5th round, usually 3rd, in live drafts...chipper frequently goes undrafted. imho.

Thanks for the feedback. Going with Bonds as DH. Could also use Chipper at 3rd but already have A-Rod (Chipper's a 4 at 3rd). Probably will bat Bonds 2nd at home and lower in non-hitter's parks to minimize his slow running.
