Benefits of a "1"

Here's the situation:

Do you keep the RH 2e17 second baseman, A stealer, .280 or so average who doesn't walk (price: 2.9M)

Or do you keep the RH 2B, 1e14, can't steal, .230 average (price: 1.1M) and use the extra 1.8M to beef up offense at other positions to compensate for the poor average.

I guess the question is, how valuable is having "1's" at both 2B and SS (already have the 1 at SS) when you're in a pitcher's park (Astrodome) with a very good pitching staff? My take is, "I'm n ot going to score a whole lot anyway -- perhaps I should prevent all the runs I can?"

Opinions?

One word.... Offense.
Can't win if you can't score.

agree. One thing 2005 rewards is balance...and if you're in a pitcher's park you'll need to have some natural hitters who can hit there. Having ones at both 2B and SS won't hurt, but you likely sacrifice more that way. In the 2005 game, obviously you're referring to Izturis or Everett at SS and Reese at 2b (altho he's a 1e10 I think).

But those guys will have horrible OBA in a pitcher's park--you'll have 2 automatic outs every time you bat around...I'd say go with a 2 at 2b.
