How do you know whether to check "IBB less with this pitcher" on each guy's card or not? Does it depend on how many groundball out chances there are on the card or something?

I hardly ever click less IBB except in ATG when I have a stud like Pete Alexander or someone of comparable worth .

I checked the box with Nolan Ryan's card in the 70s league. I figured he's too liable to end up walking in a run with a subsequent batter.
I also check the box for any situational reliever. Say I have a lefty with "avoid right-handed batters" checked. Last thing I want to see happen is have HAL bring him in to face a left-handed batter and then decide to walk that batter!
Another thing: After seeing some strange walks issued to my Mark Belanger in the 70s league, I went to "extra conservative" as my general setting.

Ok so it's not a good thing to do generally then? I've had teams before and I have always went Extra Conservative without even knowing why. I didn't know if it was a good decision or not.

I said to myself ... dude ... that's a great idea!!!! :)
Then I thought about HAL ... and by doing what you suggested then ... he may NOT walk that RH batter to face the next batter, which happens to be a lefty!!!!

IBB's are generally based off of clutch. So the IBB in SOM online, is pretty wasted. I always put my IBB on extra conservative for this reason.

Thanks. I've always done that too but really didn't know why.
Also, I guess it doesn't make much sense in a pitcher's park to give a batter a free pass eh?

I have always put my IBB on aggressive, and then for my good pitchers, I click the IBB Less with this pitcher button. But for my extreme pitchers (e.g. 6R), I will check avoid the avoid lefty hitter button and hope that HAL will get the message that I would prefer him to IBB a lefty batter if a righty is due up next instead of just taking him out. A lot of times, I have seen HAL replace a pitcher instead of just having him IBB the batter to get to the next hitter. You might have a situation where there is a lefty batter up and then three righthanded batters after him. I've seen HAL yank my 6R pitcher in those situations to bring in my 7L guy, but then leave the 7L guy in to face the righthanded batters. And, of course, usually he gets hammered. HAL does not seem to have much of an ability to look ahead.

Yeah, HAL seems to be an idiot. He puts Riske (my mop up guy) in in a tie game and he blows it. He then uses Zumaya and Nathan in a game where I was ahead 12-5. Argh!
