Late inning Defense replacement

Can anyone tell me the particulars for Defensive replacement settings ... I have set up people as 'replace for defesive sub with lead' ... under manager settings I have listed the people I want to play those same positions late in game ... but of the first nine games my team has won ... they have only had defensive replacements in one of them?

The earliest a def replacement will ever come in is the 8thma nd only if you are winning in a close game.
