DOH! My settings are wrong

I feel the need for confession today, and figured others would have good stories about this as well. I found not one, but TWO major goofs on my part today. The first, (and by far the dumbest), in a new league, as I made a last minute rush to set my lineups before the 10 P.M. deadline, I switched the two lineups. Yep, among the most egragious lineup decisions, Cody Ross flailing away against RHP, while Gabe Gross was the starter vs. lefties. Good Lord. Caught after series number 2.

Second, as I'm looking at my L/R splits in another league, I'm perplexed as to why Valverde is facing so much LHP. Well, low and behold, my lefty specialist is set to avoid left handed hitters, and as a result, Valverde (who had the same setting) was getting all the work. Caught after GAME 27!!

Amazingly, both of these teams have winning records. Maybe I should have left well enough alone..... :shock: :oops:

LOL. Why does it sometimes feel that smarty-pants micromanagement of your teams leads to getting your butt handed back to you... While taking a break from your teams and letting them go to hell will set you back on the winning course?

I don't think it's cuz we're dumb. I guess there's only so much you can do to influence the outcome you want from the rolls of the dice, i.e., just because something is probable doesn't mean it's inevitable.

Back when I was a kid, I played in a face-to-face league with a less-than-fanatical neighbor who brazenly defied every baseball convention in the way he set his rosters, lineups and rotation. The rest of us would be doing our amateur Bill James work while my neighbor was literally shuffling his deck of cards to produce his lineup. He always won his share of games.
