Defense in the Cell

Here's my defensive experiment in the Cell, but it did not start out that way: http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2007/team/team_other.html?user_id=1777 I was looking for a good offensive team with inexpensive pitching that does not give up bphrs. My draft was lousy, so I changed gears and went with this strategy. I had the first waiver pick and took Beltran. I also got Church and Everett in waivers. Pujols was available after waivers so I grabbed him and will now use a platoon DH of Cody Ross/Aaron Guiel. I don't really have a clue how this team will do, but was curious what the experts thought.

Norm!!!

Allow me.....
Splinter: How's a beer sound, Norm?
NORM : I dunno. I usually finish them before they get a word in.

OK..

D is very important in 07 IMHO. However I think I can be sacrificed a bit to take advantage of Cell's BPHR's. Don't mess with your middle D.

SP: Not bad for what you are attempting. You might also consider Cabrera and Batista. This is an upgradeable component of your team.

RP: Again you have selected some appropriate arms. However, I think that in 07 in general and certainly in the Cell you should carry an extra reliever. You simply don't have enough innings covered for your park and your starters. Definite upgrade needed.

O: I'm not sure if you need Ichiro and Beltran. Maybe trade Ichiro for a stud starter. There are good BP RF in this years set. Lowell is decent but I think Crede would be ideal and I like Teahan and Rameriz better in Cell as well.. At least try for a platoon...like J.Smith(a 4 but slays LHP).
Church can go...nice card but there are better values. At a combined 3.3 Ross and Monroe are my personal favorite platoon for Cell and can start in the field. Cather is a throw away with the injury platoon. Cheap but won't be very productive. Johjima/Snyder and or Phillips/Hall would be nice.

Overall pretty good but I think you have over spent/ not maximized value in the OF and sacrificed some O for D.

This is all without knowing what parks are in the division and the L/R breakdown of SP's.

You will get other opinions that will be filled with good advise.

Good one Splinter. How about this one:

"What's the story Norm?"
"Boy meets beer. Boy drinks beer. Boy meets another beer."

You know, I like the idea of having 1s everywhere, but it probably does not translate into strat wins in the Cell for the reason you said, namely sacrificing too much O for D. You have thrown out some names I am not familiar with, so I will take a look at them. Thanks for the pointers.

Woody: How about a beer Mr. Peterson?
Norm: Isn't it a little early, Woody?
Woody: For a beer?
Norm: No, for a stupid question...

I tried this in the Cell last year, and it was a miserable failure. Too much O sacrificed for D didn't translate into wins. I'm guessing it wouldn't be alot different this year. Don't try this one at home... 8)

Considering the prognosis for this team, I'll add

"How's it going Mr. Peterson?"
"It's a dog eat dog world, Woody and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear."

Changes so far:

Traded Ichiro for Jermaine Dye
Added Johjima and Teahan.
Dropped Church and Lowell.
Added Aaron Heilman to the pen.

Still working on it, but I think this is moving in the right direction.

Thanks guys.
