483 95 173 12 8 30 90 43 110 31 4 .358 .409 .603

Unfortunately, though he was benched as soon as I clinched the division, HAL chose to pinch hit him in each of the final three games. Last game o' the season he went on an eight game injury. I doubt Chris Duffy can deliver anything like this line....

What's the experience with Escobar? Seems like I get around 400 AB from him and he's well worth the 4.31M for 120 games.

In Shea

[b:a6acfba500]372[/b:a6acfba500] 59 126 14 8 [b:a6acfba500]15 51[/b:a6acfba500] 28 90 0 0 4 .339 .384 .540

his inability to stay healthy cost me big time. He's a huge bargain if you get 500 ab's from him, not so much if you don't.

Also in Shea, this team won a title (over 500 ab's you see)
[b:a6acfba500]544[/b:a6acfba500] 96 197 19 13 [b:a6acfba500]28 104[/b:a6acfba500] 51 126 0 0 8 .362 .415 .599

Wrigley:
[b:a6acfba500]438[/b:a6acfba500] 54 155 18 7 [b:a6acfba500]20 62[/b:a6acfba500] 37 112 0 0 3 .354 .403 .564

US Cell:
[b:a6acfba500]452[/b:a6acfba500] 84 148 14 12 [b:a6acfba500]29 108[/b:a6acfba500] 36 102 2 0 7 .327 .374 .604

In a hitters park his overall numbers don't really jump that much, best value in a pitchers park.

I have yet to have a great season with Escobar. However, I believe that he is worth the 4.31M and always try to get him. I am going to try him in a non-cell team and see how he does. I keep hoping to get lucky with him and get a few more games/ABs.

Cell Championship team
Escobar 342 67 124 15 10 23 70 38 72 5 0 4 .363 .422 .667
Cell Team
Escobar 431 77 149 19 12 22 74 42 104 7 1 4 .346 .403 .599

In a pitcher's park (Fenway) - 479 AB, .334 BA, .392 OBP, 13 triples - Love it!

In a pitcher's park (AT&T) - (thru 81 games) 244 AB, .254 BA, .311 OBP, 1 triple - Who is this guy? Very dissapointing on an excellent team. Andre Ethier and Rocco Baldelli are making him look like a chump.

I'll take the counterpoint in this thread. While he no doubt produces while he's in the lineup, like Geekor mentioned, he's not much of a bargain getting less than 500 AB's, if you use him in an $80 league. You need to get a decent backup for him, if you decide to go cheap, chances are his injury will cost you games. If you go the "decent backup" route, his replacement still will probably not perform well enough to justify the cost, not to mention having to sacrifice at another position to cover his injuries.

Since the only team on this thread to post a link was LMBombers, I decided to check out the one team that was completed (his Fenway team) to see if in fact, having him out of the lineup costs games. Granted, one teams results is much too small a sample to prove anything, I found it interesting that his team was 65 and 52 with Escobar in his lineup, 19 and 26 out of his lineup. While this proves nothing, I'd be interested to hearing from those who use Escobar regularly, if results are similar or different. I'll concede the individual stats, which more often than not both here and in leagues I've seen him used, are incredible, but if the one stat that matters (wins and losses) suffers, well is he really a bargain?

I wouldn't hesitate to use him in a $100 league though, where I feel his price would indeed make him an incredible bargain.

Jerlins, I like to look stuff up. But, other than the last 10 games, how do you determine when a player was injured without looking at all 162 games, which are available from the Schedules page. Is there an Injury History page or something like that that I am unaware of.

I just had a couple of minutes and looks at the team results from the link. I just clicked on the individual games until I found one Escobar was hurt, and went from there. Took me about 5 minutes total. Just don't try it with a 600 PA guy

Jerlins, you are completely right.

You really need 450 ab's from him, and then you are getting your $$'s worth and then some. If you get less than that, well not so much of a bargain (unless somehow your cheap backup has an incredible season). And trust me, I use Gutierrez/Mench as my backup, so I know they cost me :P

Haven't tried posting a link in a while, but here goes. I got 500 + AB from him on this team. The 1st 120 games he only got injured once. The last 42 games, about 5 times. All in all, worth it.
