Trying to improve team batting average

Ok, this team was posted during the pre-season:

I play in Fenway park. I welcome any specific advice, but my main concern is my league low .229 batting average. Is it due to poor lineup construction? Or have I just been incredibly unlucky this first week?

When Tori Hunter has the highest BA on a team, the dice are definitely spinning backwards. Give it some time.

Too early. I once had a team batting average of around .200 after 20 games or so. Your team won't hit .229 and Schilling won't win 24 games either. You are just over 10% of your season. It's like judging a baseball game after one inning. Good luck.

Your sample size is far too small to be really worried about. The team might be hitting .229, but break it down into individual performances if that would make you feel better. Is Derek Jeter REALLY going to hit .181 for a full season? Scott Rolen .143? Todd Helton .188? Mark Grudzielanek is tied for the team lead in doubles, which is not the way things will wind up (although he should wind up with at least 30, himself).

If you need more evidence that the dice are simply not in your favor right now (might I add that being 8-10 with numbers like these is a minor miracle?), take a look at your bullpen. Jonathon Papelbon has blown more saves than he's actually earned, and your bullpen is only 2 of 7 in save opportunities with one of the premier closer cards in the deck. There you have it.

The thing that worries me the most about your team, to be honest, is the bullpen beyond Papelbon. It just looks a bit thin, in my opinion - I could be wrong, it's happened before.

The pen was a major topic of discussion here prior to the season starting. To be honest I'm still not happy with it. However, my starters are doing a solid job but they are not getting run support. When the bats pick up....watch out!
