Thoughts on an RFK team

Postby Rant » Fri Aug 10, 2007 12:20 pm

I can use some help with this team ... went a bit of a different route (low $ p in RFK) and I'm trying to make some decisions on a couple fronts.

This is not a final roster; I have excess $s on the bench while I'm deciding. In my mind the main post-waiver decisions are on CF (1s aren't' that great a fit unless I don't want salary - Duffy - Payton, Baldelli, other 2s are available) and 1B (I could stand pat and use Hudson, Sanchez, and Atkins - but thinking about dropping Hudson for a 1B who can hit RHP better). Also a good SP available and thinking about upgrading.

Any and all thoughts welcome...

I have an RFK team I'm struggling with right now myself, so perhaps a hindsight point of view might help.

Perhaps keeping Hudson, move Atkins to 3b, and drop Sanchez for Nick Johnson at 1b. I there are more 1b options than 3b out there. That'll give you some punch at the corners too.

You might wanna get a cheaper closer too, if available (Hoffman or Otsuka maybe), and reinvest the rest of your money to upgrade your SPs. You can get good value in SP since you're in a pitchers park, too.

Anyway, my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth (which ain't much!) given my dismal RFK team.

In case you want to learn from my mistakes, this is what that team looks like (I just dropped Olson and Garcia to pick up Contreras and Willis):

Good luck! :)

Here's my take on your team. I have one successful RFK team, and a team where I tried cheap pitching much like yours in ATT and I am not doing great so far. I agree Rivera is overkill. Hoffman, Betancourt, even Ray or Cordero better values in RFK. I like the rest of your pen. Except for maybe Gobble. Dump Gomez and get a little more pop at 1B. You alreday have good average, you need people to knock them in. If you can get a guy with a number of natural HR's (Ortiz, Hafner, Pujols) that would be great, and worth giving up somethig somewhere else. I see you as stronger against Lefties, especially in extra base hits. You could use someone who could pound righties (Berkman, Thome) Sanchez seems like lefty overkill, he could go. I have not had good luck with Martinez, too many natural homers. I would drop him, and add 2 or 3 better starters (Bush, Johnson, Schilling, Garcia, Peavy come to mind.)
Just my ideas.
Here is my best RFK team - http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2007/team/team_other.html?user_id=5460

I would get someone better than O'Conner. At such a pitchers park a +9 hold for a cheap pitcher will cost you needless runs. I also don't like Mauer at RFK, there is better value out there usually at C. Keep Bosner, Capps, and Oliver -- good value there at RFK. Your bench OF needs better D too.

Get a cheaper closer. Not a fan of O'Conner. You need to add more pure power, guys with few BPHRs. Sanchez is too much money for zero real power. Mauer is pretty costly too.
