HELP!!!!

Postby ANDREWLAITURI » Thu Oct 13, 2005 12:41 pm

I made the mistake of jumping into a league that will start on Monday but I won't have fulltime net access till Monday which means...I'm gonna have to have one heck of a good waivers. I do have the first overall pick BUT my team has more holes than swiss cheese! I'm not sure what to address first??? Other stadiums in my division are...Coors, Wrigley, and Angels. My home stadium is Skydome. Let me just add that this is my 1st go round in 05. Here's the link to my team...

Any and all comments are welcome...Thanks guys

That's not bad at all. You can always get a bullpen and almost always get some half decent slugs to back up Santana, Glavine, et al. Most of your positional players are usable. Overbay should go, Koskie may be improved upon, ditto Roberts and Hunter, but they are OK. Manram and Varitek are good, as is Texiera. That's very good for having 1st waiver pick IMO, as you must have had Santana and Manram 1 and 2, or very close to it.

Santana is great, but not sure how well those BP HR's will do in Skydome. I think he will still pitch well, but I think just as well as Clemens or Zambrano would, for less $$.

As durant said, Manny, Varitek and Texeria are you for sure keepers. Roberts has good def, and can bat #2 vs righties, but does very little vs lefties. Hunter is all glove no stick (from what I ahve seen of him), I'd rather have Finley, Rowand (available often in auoleagues) instead. you definetly need a lefty that will protect you from RH pitchers in there somewhere, besides Koskie (who has good power but crappy BA usually).

Obviously you need some guys in your pen. On the cheap I'd look at guys like Torres, Shields, Smoltz. Even cheaper I have had good luck with Parrish, brower (vs righties) and Hammond. I have never really seen Drese do well, that whip is so bad it doesn't matter that he has no BP Hr's, just my casual observation. I'd actually think you can get by more with Santana and 4 non * sp's (Rusch + 3 more) than Glavine and Co. Guys like Madstitch, Wright (the expensive one), Hudson, Harden, Arroyo are all guys I've had decent luck with. Even some of those like Bush, or El Duque are usually left. Jus an option, and depending on what is on the wire, who knows. If there is another stud * Sp (oswalt or above) on the wire, I'd just stick with the * guys.

You're gonna need a closer.

Also I think you would be better off with a Greene or a Crosby @ SS. I like Wilson, but in a pitchers park.

I don't like having 3 LHSP's unless I'm in Shea.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm looking into some of those options you guys talked about. The pen, as it is right now, is a mess but I think that is something I can address post waivers. I thought I'd address the SP and offense with the waivers draft. I think this may be the first time I've ever had the first overall pick and my mind was boggled as to which holes needed the immediate attention of the first pick.

I'll for certain be busy Monday doing the fine tuning and whatnot leading up to the deadline and maybe I can tap into the wealth of experience here to give me a leg up.

Thanks again.

I have noticed the lack of a closer on my team and guys like Gagne and Wagner are out there but I wasn't certain that they were worthy of the first overall pick with the holes in the line-up and SP rotation to be fixed.
Am I right in thinking this way? Or perhaps should I grab one of them with the first overall and fix the other stuff post-waivers?

Thoughts?

I think you're right on.

I made that mistake on one of my first teams and took Wags over a big bat. Closers are great and necessary but if you have the opportunity to pick up a stud bat that will play everyday, do it.

Who are the top FA available?

well you can't afford Edmonds (who would be nice) but there are lots of good bats there.

But first what are the Sp's left. Traditionally in 05 SPing is harder to fix than hitting.
