Stretch Run question

I'm in a pretty tight race for the wild card with an outside chance of winning the division but Brian McCann just went down for 15 games for the second time this season. I'm entering a stretch of 21 games where I'll face teams that have lots of lefties, but my division is almost all righties.

I'm contemplating dropping McCann but if I do, what then? Should I grab Redmond and then upgrade my DH (the underperforming Matt Diaz) with someone like Moises Alou or Wily Mo Pena? Do I really help my cause with those guys since they are both injury risks? Or do I go for Bard and trade Diaz in for a Lofton/Williams platoon? Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

In the future when using McCann, grab Matheny or another decent, injury prone guy.

Have them come in as a late inning defensive replacement.

Yes, I know McCann is a good defensive guy but if the sub comes in and gets hurt, McCann will not get hurt anymore.

Dropping McCann with cost you at this point because of the 20% hit.

Another idea would be to free up a few bucks and dump Ausmus for a catcher that hits lefties better, if you can. ie. Paul Phillips, Matheny, Treanor etc...

That way, since you're going to see some LH's you'll be helping the replacement, while keeping McCann for the stretch run.

Where are you hitting Diaz?

I would stay the course with McCann. You have 57 games to go and McCan is only out for 15 of those. He will help you down the stretch as long as he avoids further injuries of course. You say that most of your division has RH SP so he should be great in those games.

On the other hand Redmond is a great catcher to have in a pitcher's park like yours. He won't have the power of McCann but he will hit .300 or better guaranteed.

Excellent stuff, guys!

To answer Socalchiro, I'm hitting Diaz lead-off. That's probably not optimal, but I needed someone to get on base.
