[quote:5a3ef66f2f]Now if only the Royals could figure that out![/quote:5a3ef66f2f]
Well, they [i:5a3ef66f2f]have[/i:5a3ef66f2f] Gload.
Actually, the Royals had it pretty well figured out in the '70s and '80s, but Schuerholz left for Atlanta. It's why they wouldn't pay for guys like Beltran. That the prospects they got for high-priced FAs didn't pan out reflected inadequate talent evaluation. Hopefully, GM Dayton Moore has learned something from Schuerholz. Early indications are promising, although I'm not sure Alex Gordon or Billy Butler will be right for this franchise long-term -- unless park dimensions become more accomodating (which the Cardinals did for McGuire and Pujols in Busch II before moving to more pitcher-friendly Busch III). Moore didn't draft those guys, but he traded Burgos to the Mets for Brian Bannister, which is looking like a world-class steal.
But maybe it's a chicken-and-egg situation ... such as the Royals' lack of power effecting the Kauffman ballpark rating, rather than Kauffman accounting for the lack of Royals power.
In either case, as the rest of the thread says, in Strat you can't build a team for The K with high BPHR sluggers, and speed doesn't hurt -- anywhere.
