Fumbling in a pitchers park again

Fumbling in a pitchers park again

Postby kimkrichbaum2 » Sun Sep 16, 2007 9:35 pm

I am playing in RFK, and struggling to get a decent lineup. My theory was to go with good starters and a good closer, dent defense, and enough offense to win close games.
I wanted to get one good natural HR guy, but I lost Ortiz as my first pick in draft and missed Berkman in waivers. The only power guy left is Thome, and I don't feel like plunking down 9 mil on a guy who can't hit lefties. 1/2 of the starters in my division are lefties!
So I decide to go with a doubles and triples guy (Loney) to knock in runs. My judgment of my lineup is that I have good OB,and decent BA, but not enough pop to knock them in, [b:50f51b49bc]what do you think?[/b:50f51b49bc]
For info, platoons, DH Lopez/Miller 3B Lamb/Harris, CF Gross/Cruz
Any comments appreciated!

Angel, I'm in your division so I'm not going to share everything but here are a couple of thoughts.

Miller is wasting $$ since Mauer can only go down for 3 games. Don't like him as a DH. I've matched up Bruntlett/Lopez with okay OB and spent money elsewhere.

I think you're correct about Loney being a good fit at first.

Don't like 4's at 3B and Lamb has a ton of errors also. Really don't like 3's in CF. I'd look to improve D a little.

Good luck.

I've had a little success with rfk and while i'm not an expert.....

Pitching
I like sheets, maine, and hoffman a lot. I think you'll have good luck with them. You seem to be a little sp heavy to me. I'd look to pick up a bargin like beckett, bonser, escobar or r hill. I'd also rather have pedro over young or olsen if you want to stay with upper end pitching. is capps available in the bullpen? if so, he is a must.

Hitting
A wise man once told me that pitching parks are about doubles and batting avg's. I like mauer, carroll, and abreu. Rollins is fine as well. I'd get rid of loney for overbay if possible if not i think he'll be ok. The rest of your lineup needs more double's. reed johnson, gary matthews, gonzo, maybe even catalanotto. 3b you need to upgrade to zimmerman, wright, or lowell.

Overall spend a little more of the cash on some doubles guys.

I took your feedback and dumped Sanchez for Rogers, Miller for Phillips, then i picked up Zimmerman for Lamb. He's got some nice extra base hits, especially against lefties. I am now more satisfied with my team.
Thanks for the comments. :D

I'm not sold on Jimmy Rollins @ SS.

I think he got robbed of a good card plus he's not a good fit for you in your park.

IMHO, in a pitchers park, you need a 1 @ SS. Even if it takes spending the big $ to get Jeter. Personally I like to go after AGonz.

There's some nice pitching still available. Sheets should do well; Maine's a good fit. I really like Bonser and Burnett and Escobar has performed in RFK. I'm surprised Clemens is still sitting out there. He may be overkill in RFK, but he won't disappoint.

You can do better in CF. You're investing a lot in Mauer, I'd consider downgrading at catcher and upgrading in center -- Payton may fit your scheme well. I really want to like Zim with all his doubles, but hard to pass up Chipper, Zim's card won't perform as well. And, hey, if you feel like taking a walk on the wild side Escobar will hit for you, particularly against all of the lefties.

Escobar hits anybody well...period.

You just need to spend more money than usual on a backup.
