"bunt more" versus "hit & run more"

"bunt more" versus "hit & run more"

When it comes to HAL trying to sort out your individual player instructions, is it possible to set utilize both of these settings or is one more preferable than the other? I have assembled a squad to play in Kauffman Stadium that includes Ichiro Suzuki, Omar Vizquel, and Luis Castillo, all of whom have speed on the base paths, A bunt ratings and B hit & run ratings. How do I best utilize their "small-ball" talents?

I would just click "Hit & Run More" for these guys.

If I'm not mistaken all of these guys have the * in their steal rating. So they have to be held on.

That opens up the infield for the batter.

It depends on the rest of your team and matchups.

Personally I would only use Luis Castillo as a H&Rer or Bunter. but even then it depends greatly on the OPS and Clutch you have hitting behind those guys.

Remember that those strategies will give an out, I don't usually like to give outs away if I have three big guns lined up right behind them, if on the other hand you have high AVG, low SLG types of bat right behind I would perhaps consider it.

If the opposing pitcher is a big Ker I would probably be more inclined.

Vizquel in particular I wouldn't play small ball with, when you do play small ball you take the bat away from the hitter and you refer to the H&R charts which will yield results that will leave you better off just playing Vizquel's card.

There's This thread in the strategy section where I devoted a lot of time to H&R, read Luckyman's observations on the topic (marcus wilby) hopefully that will help.

Another thing to keep in mind is how many DPs guys hit into. H&R is useful in avoiding the ones on the hitter's card.

C2, one small correction, you do get some hits from h&R so you don't always give up an out.
