The 'Auction Draft Theme'

The 'Auction Draft Theme'

Postby ArrylT » Mon Oct 24, 2005 4:58 pm

aka another idea I had to post or it would have driven my meagre brain crazy. To be honest I don't expect 11 more owners to sign on ... but if they do, this league will go ahead.

To be honest I didnt expect to have the time to finalize/post this theme, but work has been a lot slower than expected (so far) this week.

---

Premise is simple, and combines the Live Draft format with the Auction Draft format. So if you suck at either format you'll probably suck twice as bad here ... :D

1 - Each owner gets $160 million total to spend, $80m at the beginning, and $5m added after each round.

2 - The draft order is determined by bidding. Highest bidder gets to pick his spot, followed by the next highest bidder, all the way down to the least highest bidder who gets the last remaining draft spot in that round.

Ex: Owner A bid $75m and that was the highest bid that round. He chooses to pick 1st. Owner B bid $55m and that was the 2nd highest bid, and chooses to pick 4th. Owner Z bid $5m and that was the lowest bid, he gets stuck with the #12 spot (at it was the last one available).

3 - You MUST bid at least $1m per round, so that you'll never have more than $84m available to bid. You'll also never have less than $6m to spend as you'll get $5m in new fund each round thru Rd 17.

Ex 1: You started with 80m, you spent $50m in round I, so you get $35 (80-50+5) to spend in Round II.

Ex 2: You started with 80m, you spent $1m in round I, so you get $84 (80-1+5) to spend in Round II.

4 - Bid increments are by 100k.

5 - Tied bids are broken by that nights Pick III Lottery (High to Low results).

6 - After the draft order of 17 rounds are determined, we can (hopefully) do the draft on penngrays website.

7 - Any remaining $ left over from the auction will be spent on the stadium draft round. The Stadium Draft will be held AFTER the Live Draft is completed.

Ex: You spent $155m in the Live Draft bidding section so you'll have $5m to bid on a spot for the Stadium draft round.

8 - Divisions determined by Pick IIIs at the beginning ... Lowest to Highest (OPPOSITE of how Tied Bids are broken)

9 - Irregardless of how you fair in the bidding or drafting, by signing up you commit to seeing the league all the way thru save for the usual reasons (family emergencies/illness/loss of internet access). No "my overall draft position sucked so my team will stink so I am bailing" nonsense.

10 - For those wondering, bidding will be like if you were bidding on a player on penngrays auction site. We'd keep bidding on ONE specific player (that would represent the current round order being bid on) until the last bid was submitted, with a 12 or 24 hour bid deadline. This means it would take a couple of weeks to complete this section as we would not start bidding on Rd 2 until Round 1 bidding was finished

11 - Further rules may be added, or existing rules altered if need be.

Note: This should require a lot of skilled "accounting", and strategic thinking, as you could conceivably end up with the #1 pick in up to 17 rounds if you bid correctly.

I was never going to leave TSN/SOM completely. It had just been my intent to leave the forums.

However I have/had to complete the SOM Tour, and got the chance to play another season in NLD (which I couldn't pass up). It really made it difficult to communicate with the other owners in my SOM Tour league(s) so I had to decide to post on a when needed basis.

Assuming this league doesnt get off the ground, once the SOM Tour & NLD leagues are underway, I'll "disappear" again til the next commitment comes along.

I'm always up for an AT run theme league. Just curious however, I'm assuming you'd expect the bidding for draft positions to take a long time? How would that work? Is it a blind bid (i.e., you only have one shot and you don't know what others bid) or keep bidding for each spot until one person bids the most. As such, how much would we have to monitor the thread? Do we have to be around all the time to keep bidding, or would someone be able to check in once or twice a day to check on how the bids are panning out?

I hope the next commitment is the 2006 version of "Opening Day League".

Okay, thanks AT. So the bidding would be here on these boards? And if so, will all Round 1 picks be up for auction at the same time or will each pick be up for bidding with a 12/24 hr clock?

Does everyone make one bid per round or would bidding continue until no new bids came in for 12 or 24 hours?

I assume that if someone else bid 25 million another person would also be able to bid 25 million? Only way I see that ties would happen(unless the bids were secret until all bids were in).

What would be the logic for someone to be second highest bidder but then to opt to pick 4th?

What $$$$ cap for the actual league?
