Beating a US Cell team

Beating a US Cell team

Postby STEVEPONEDAL » Wed Dec 05, 2007 5:44 pm

I see a lot of posts on how to win with a US Cell team. Maybe, this is a dumb question but how do you beat a US Cell team?

One needs pitcher's with low HRs and BPHRs.

5 or 6 relief pitchers available with avoid opposite XHB and quick hooks?

Would one be more or less aggressive on Manager settings like:

bunting

running

base stealing

Intentional Walks

Does one need to draw the infield in, earlier or later in the ballgame?

And then offensively, a slugfest?

Any secret formula?

You don't you make him beat you! You play 81 games in your home, and what 12 at his? Concentrate on winning 2/3 at home and try to win 40-50% on the road and you'll make the playoffs.

Best way would be go into a park like Shea or RFK and make all his BP Hr's disappear at your home.

Now to answer the question with what you want, it really depends on what park you are playing in still. There maybe players that would work for both.

I agree with Geekor. If there is one US Cel team in your division, you can't play to beat them in their park. If you are playing in a pitcher's park, and you have a division and league full of hitter's parks, (I have exactly that situation right now with my first Dolphins team) I would moderate certain qualities of pitcher;s park team. I would have few W's among my hitters. and pitcher's with moderate rather than high BPHR's (Schmidt, Bush, and Garcia rather than Young and Pedro)

I play in the Jake. Cabrera, Iguchi and Wright are dragging down my OBP. Otherwise, I think I am leadigng the league in doubles and I have more SBs, with about equivalent %'s. My success rate in SACs is also better.

I am 4/2 at home and 3/3 in his Cell.

We are in the final intra-divison games and I am looking for any edges I can find.

So Litangel.

In the above scenario, I would be better off with:

Overbay 1B/ Youkilis or Lowell 3B then I would with Laroche 1B/ Ramirez 3B in a divison with three pitcher's park's, including me, and one US Cell.

Is that correct?

Thanks

Hi Steve, At this point in the season (game 132) I would make a change only if it would improve your chances against your division, not an individual team. And then only from your pitching side. A new bat won't make much of a difference at this point. The division leader, Gars, are as good against LHP as RHP. The Pollywogs are slightly better against RHP and the Highlanders are much better against LHP but his team value is only 70 million. So no obvious reason for you to pick up a LHP or RHP from that info.

Then you can look at their lineups and see how many bats they have from each side. None of the three have more than 3 LH hitters vs. LHP so a reverse lefty might be in order but there are none with a * among the free agents. Possibly a trade?

Gars has an 8 game lead so let him win the division and then pick him off in the playoffs with your team (which has a 6 game lead in the WC). So far you are better than him head to head so I would just stick with what brung ya and assume the WC will win the title again!

I should have asked how to strangle Hal

Postby STEVEPONEDAL » Thu Dec 06, 2007 4:42 pm

I am up 2 going into the 9th inning, HAL brings in Sherrill to face 2 RHBs, Rivera hits one out. Then he brings in Wickman, faces one batter and then R Howard clears the fence and the US Cell fans go wild.

I got to go ind someone, anyone named Hal to strangle him and feel better.

You must design your team to fit your home park, but when doing so you still need to think of balance. You should still minimize the BPHR on your pitching cards and look for raw power from a couple of your hitters. When I have a pitching team, I like to have a couple of cheap bats on the bench with BPHR on their cards so that I can slip them into the lineup when I go on the road against the bashers.

I just finished a league that had 3 US Cell teams. Two of the teams were in my division. I built my team according to my stadium.

My combined record against the US Cell teams was 40-20 and I finished 1st in my division.
