peavy 16-8 2.46 era
otsaka 2.85 era in 85 inn

[i:5214f99ac0]very important at every position[/i:5214f99ac0]

Is the only answer....Just play a game or two on the CD-ROM or play in ATG2 where if you dont have all 1s on D you will have a hard time winning.

I try to have solid defense (1's or 2's) where ever I can on the field, unless there is a guy whose offense would totally make up for the defensive difference between two guys. Like the difference between Vlad Guerrero and So Taguchi. 1's and 2's up the middle for sure - I even try to keep runners from advancing on a catcher's mistakes by taking Mike Matheny whenever I can. Loretta and Guillen would definitely score you some runs, but that defense would scare the heck out of me. Too many singles squirting through. Sometimes, though, teams get lucky with a less than stellar defense. Don't let that discourage you from trying to put out a solid defensive team - I don't think most people head into the draft thinking they'll just bash your head in (unless they play at Coors), but when they can't get the solid defense they wanted, they tend to try to put together a team that will score 6 or 7 runs in a game.

Go defense, all the way. Unless you can't.

Agree...pitching and defense for me. Weird numbers of your league...over an entire season?...ufff.

If you don't mind my asking, what kind of 2s and 3s were you playing? the 2e31 type? or the 2e8 type? Still wouldn't really explain much, but maybe shed some light. In my limited understanding of defense I think the e rating is often underestimated by some players...but you know this, heck you were in my first league and helped me out a bunch!

Hang in there, rolls are bound to roll your way 8)

Either way, Robo-G, always nice to run into you, hope we get to be in another league together.

I could be wrong, but based on pure x chances off the pitchers cards, 1b for example comes less into play. Everyone I assume as seen this:

http://strato.berce.us/dice.htm

With that in mind, 1bx typically is found in two columns on the pitchers card at #12, which means (I think) you have about a 3% chance of a 1bx per play, since 1/2 the results cme on the hitters' cards.

Am I right? I think so.

3bx = about 4% chance.

You probably have at least a 15%-20% chance usually of a ball being hit up the middle (SSx or 2bx).That's one in five for those of you keeping score at home.

I love defense. I am on the ATG record site for defense and my Jaser D Rd 2 teams has only seven errors through 30 games. However, IMO it is not the be all and end all many make it out to be. I won an autoleague with Michaels in CF, lost in a Tour final with Grissom in CF(was up 3-1) and I am starting a finals in a "championship's only" league with Jiminez at 2B(Mora at 3B and Huff at 1B). These are the only times I used a "3" at CF or 2B. So while I agree defense is important, having a weaker defense even at a key position, does not preclude you from winning even against strong competition.
