I wonder why the Rockies don't just sign hitter after hitter, and pound the holy b'jingers out of their opponents. I ave only been in two leagues, but so far both leaugues have featured succesful Coors teams the fit this model.

High K pitchers make sense in that environment too, which the Rockies talked about a long time ago. GB pitchers would help of course as well.

They certainly would have an easy time attracting FA bats.

In strat, groundball pitchers make an excellent addition to any team playing in Coors... in reality, the heavy sinkers and other breaking balls just don't move the way they need to at Coors Field to keep the ball on the ground. Take a look at Mike Hampton. Darryl Kile. Among others. Strikeouts make sense, and I'm sure it's easier to strike people out in Coors because they're trying to knock the ball 700 feet.

The problem with fielding a competitive team in Coors, I think, is the confidence of the pitching. You give up a single. Walk the next guy. And then Doug Glanville comes up and pops a three run dinger? At SBC, he [i:56f743c137]might[/i:56f743c137] take you to the warning track. That kind of trauma definitely would spill over into the next road trip.

Actually, they did exactly that when they had a few success, with DAnte Bichette, Castilla, Walker, and the other bashers...

Luckyman, is correct, in addition, they did that for few years, had great success in the bashers.

To develop the concept further, they were correct in needing OFs with speed (good range), but that is around the time they began to sacrifice boppers. With this in mind, they should have an infield of boppers, with a speedy outfield. High K pitchers is the best you can do, even if they have higher WHIPs.

The M's should trade Beltre and his warning track power (I live in Seattle, and SAFECO is death to most RH batters even though SOM has it at 1-7 for HRs) to COLORADO where his numbers would be sick.

They should go back to the formula that worked with Bichette, Walker in the early 90's. Either that or move the fences back as much as possible. The formula for good pitching remains the same - location. Strikeout guys won't necessarily do it as most pitchers "out" pitches (i.e. splitter, hard slider) just don't have the break in that park and the blazing fastball has zero movement. Get some pitchers that can locate, change speeds and find a way to hold the other guys to 5 runs or less per 9 innings and you could field a playoff team @ Coors. But chances are that they would lose in the first round because their team would be so geared for Coors that they couldn't adapt elsewhere. I would also consider putting a "Green Monster" wall say in right field and get all pull rh power hitters that hit from the right side. If that doesn;t work, just move the team!
