nope. But the CD-ROM's utility is to be able to sim out your choices of players, lineups, matchups, etc until you reach statistically significant trends...so to become a successful vet you have to suck every last bit of uncertainty out of the "dice rolling" until you find the winning combinations :P
something I haven't chosen to do yet...but you'd find many of the best players here also share your sentiment toward the board game and/or being able to play in real time.
Of course, some of them would then have to give up work, sleeping, and eating because of all the teams they have!

Yes, the CD-ROM version has a program built in for NetPlay. It's relatively simple to use, albeit a little slow, but it allows you to play others head-to-head in live time ... with all the options of the board game. If you purchase the CD-ROM version 10.00 ( upgrade to v.10.01 free on the SOM), then PM me some time and I'll show you how (I'm hardly an expert, but am at least functional and I love NetPlay).

yes it just seems like netplay would be much more fun...
can you play solo on the cdrom also , like in the old days with the dice?

Yes, you just set one team to computer manager. You can also put together your own leagues and draft -- selecting one team to draft manually, if you prefer, to be the team you play (or you can play all games manually). It's worth ordering the CD-ROM and, once you get acclimated to it, join a league (I'm in one which is just forming that uses the 1934 season, the Hall of Fame set and Negro League players. We just lost a manager, so it may be a while before we get going so you may have time to get in on it if you order quickly. If not, then other leagues can be formed).

To see if you like it, go to SOM and use the trial version. It will give you four 1934 teams to play with, although not all the features are available. It's still a good starting point.

SOM = Strat-O-Matic

Yes, you get to roll the dice ... or at least click on them so the computer rolls them. It's not substantially different from the board game, except the computer does the actual dice rolling -- upon your command -- and split card pulling. You can even see the cards while playing, watch the flight of the ball, see the other team's line-up (RH/LH batting, balance, BA and HR stats), pitch count, fielding ratings and a lot of other stuff on the screen as you are playing. It also asks you to make in-game decisions, like whether to take an extra base or throw home or cut the ball off. Get the trial version and try it. Most all of your questions will be answered.
