Hi

This is my first 01 team. There does not seem to be much pitching in 01 unless you spend 9 mill a pitcher.

Does my team stand a chance? Or am I in for a long season.....

01 is probably the toughest season to figure out pitching if you're new ... the pricing for that season was pretty imbalanced ... there are .50 starters who routinely outperform 7m SP.

My recommendation would be to get a 9M SP and then go for cheap matchup starters.

There are about 4 players on that team I would recommend holding onto, otherwise you can do a complete re-tool with that squad (sorry but that is how I see it).

Wish I could go in depth with some advice ... just do not have the time right now - look for JKolak or Artemus Rex - they're both very good at the 01 game.

Oh and the 4 players?

Alomar
Guerrero
Giles
Martinez

(ranked in order of value)

Looking back in the archives, I had reliable luck in neutral parks with these higher priced SP:

Vazquez
W. Miller
Burkett
Park
Weaver, though less, was also pretty good

These hitters were high producers but were difficult to get:

Floyd
S. Green
Ordonez
B. Giles
Bernie Williams
Nevin - DH

Good luck - a fun year but the advantage will go to the experienced vet who knows the bargain players (can't remember all of them). Salaries were more unbalanced that year.

Paul Loduca was my favorite 2001 player.

Good D, hits for AVG and Power.

Pick-up Blake Stein. He did great for me and if I recall he was only .50 mill.

One more Question

Postby gross54 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:52 pm

We can not set pitcher to avoid right left, max 6 or any of those things in 01?

Exactly gross. The only way to change setting is for the whole team on the manager's page. Think of it as "roughing it."

A 2001 league that got past me!!! A shame indeed!!!

Since I'm not playing in that league, I may help you.

I usually gravitate towards cheaper SP in 2001. Typically would draft one stud. Had the most success with Mussina and Mays in that regard. Darryl Kile (RIP) was one I would always draft. If by some miracle Steve Sparks and Tom Glavine are available, snap them up. Suppan isn't bad. Just check the lineups of your division opponents (you'll be facing the 30X apiece) to see if they are stacked with LH and S hitters. If other teams have lineups with LH and S, draft Ramon Ortiz. Jimmy Anderson at $1M was featured on many of my staffs. Dempster started giving me the willies and then some. Look for a 5/6 ERA from him.

Your bullpen is too expensive. I always went cheap. Buddie and Dejean I almost always have used recently as closers. Things look sour on Matt Anderson though, HAL doesn't like to use him. I like the nickel LH relievers with Venafro and Sauerbeck. John Rocker can turn knots in your stomach with his WHIP, but he's OK. On the right side, I used a few cheap ones. Ben Weber at .50M was one my favorites along with Lou Pote another .50M bargain.
