CD-Rom Game setting for more back-to-back injuries

CD-Rom Game setting for more back-to-back injuries

Postby The Biomechanical Man » Sun Dec 04, 2005 3:09 pm

People have posted it before, and now I believe it too. It seems that more often than chance, a player who is injured is re-injured in his first series back.

Some of the MLB trainers and players I know in real life tell me about players returning back before they are 100% healthy. Of course this is no secret, and is known to many baseball fans.

This Strat impression and real life impression together got me thinking. I wonder if the CD-Rom version has a super advance setting that increases a player's risk of being re-injured when he returns from an injury, in order to simulate the "less than 100% healthy" player? The CD-Rom seems to have a lot of hidden quirks, so I wouldn't be surprised if this were true.

Can anyone who has the CD-Rom version of Strat 2004 season confirm or deny that the game does this? Anyone have any other thoughts on this?

I have often wondered if there something screwy in the random dice generator that TSN uses. I have seen so many times over the years where a player with a low injury chance and 3 game max, repeatedly is injured. It happened a couple of seasons ago with Giambi, ended up with 15 missed games, down for 3 five times. I sometimes juggle the lineup position, just to see if I can move the guy out of harms way. Just had a similar thing happen in the 69 game with Aaron. :?

More then one manager, myself included has made this observation. I have the cd-rom game and know of no setting which would simulate this, and therefore a segment of the managers will point to this and say "no way" ..... I am still convinced that it does in fact happen and there are quite a few others who think so too. I often times rest the injured player an additional series....especially if its for only 1 or 2 games and have found that it indeed helps and cuts down on the reoccurence of injury.

This is of course only my opinion...for whatever its worth.

Here's my 2 pennies, FWIW.

As far as i can tell there is no setting to make back to back injuries happen in the CD game. Now- there are little hidden goodies in SOM and this could be one of them.

I think one of 2 things are happening here-

1- The people that seem to notice this the most are people with many many teams going at once. I, myself have never noticed it. Sure it happens but not anything that throws up red flags. But a lot of people swear by it, so there might be something there. Or it could just be the simple fact that if you have 25 teams running you are gonna see a lot weird shit. People remember the occasional odd occurence and never the many times nothing happened.

2- After a few seasons of netplay and many seasons of replaying seasons on the CD game--it does seem to me that injuries in general happen far more frequently in the TSN version. MAybe they changed the code somewhere to allow more injuries to try and keep usage down. But that could just be , again, more teams= more injuries.

So, I ahve no idea-- and I don't think we'll ever know.

I definitely believe there is something to this re-injury thing. This is my first time playing and I drafted I-Rod thinking he was pretty secure as my starting catcher (529 ABs and 135 games played), only to have him injured for about 40 of my 60 games so far. He has only 61 ABs and has gone from an initial 5 game injury to 15, then another 13 and then recently another 4. I contemplated dropping him, but was advised against it. I have since had to make other moves to improve my back-up, so its a bit frustrating. He is supposedly healthy for my next series, but I'm going to have to move him in the line-up to try and quash this bug.
