Question about Lineups

I don't totally understand what the game does here. I set my LHanded and RHanded lineups and then I check the box score the next day and the system has stuff like Darrel Evans or Cal Ripken Jr. leading off. I do believe that Phil Bradley my usual lead off man was hurt for a few games but this is some awfully weird lineup AI to put players such as Evans and Ripken at the top of the order and then scrambling around the rest of the order to something not even close to what I had put in for my preferred lineups. I guess I'm trying to understand the logic behind the game engine here.

I've seen some strange lineup tinkering in the past, as well. There is now a feature (at least there was last season) where you can name a backup for every one of your players, and I believe that backup will bat in the starters' place in the lineup until they return from injury. There should be a link on the lineup page to set up a depth chart.

I realize this setup isn't ideal, because your cheapy backup (my backups are usually cheap) might have an OBP that doesn't have any business replacing your leadoff hitter, or "power" that would get laughed out of the cleanup spot, but at least it would keep the rest of your lineup intact. I hope this helps.
