Closer Rules

OK, so it has been a long time since I have used the actual Strat Cards -- before they had closer ratings.

So, going to the Help section I was trying to look up the Closer ratings and here's what it says:

@ -- Indicates the reading is changed to SINGLE** if the pitcher is fatigued. A starting pitcher becomes fatigued when 1) the game has reached the pitcher's endurance number in innings, and he gives up either 3 hits and/or unintentional walks in the same inning, or 4 hits and/or unintentional walks over 2 consecutive innings, or 2) he gives up 5 runs in any one inning, 6 runs over 2 consecutive innings, or 7 runs over 3 straight innings. A relief pitcher.............................

Man - it cuts off right when it was getting to the part I was interested in. So, basically, my question is -- if a player has C6, does that mean he can go 6 outs before he's fatigued?

If he is C0, does that mean he's automatically fatigued in any closing setting?

Thanks.

[quote:b660ae8134]if a player has C6, does that mean he can go 6 outs before he's fatigued?[/quote:b660ae8134]Yes. To describe it in game terms, he comes in to begin the 8th and gets three outs. If it's a closer situation in the 9th (and note that in SOM, it can't be a closer situation any earlier than the 9th -- see below), those three outs are subtracted from his C6, making him C3, which is still enough to get him through three more outs in the ninth.

[quote:b660ae8134]If he is C0, does that mean he's automatically fatigued in any closing setting?[/quote:b660ae8134]No, that'd be "N." C0 means that when he gives up a hit or walk in the closer situation, he is fatigued at that point.

(As noted, a SOM "closer situation" is not the same as an official scorer's "save situation." Per Rule 28, it is defined as having the lead in the 9th inning or later, with the tying run on base or at bat.)
