Trade offer help

Postby Free Radicals » Wed Jun 04, 2008 5:13 pm

I have Smoltz and am playing at Chase Field in 2007 . I've been offered Penny for Smoltz and am looking into it . Things I like : Smoltz gives me a solid *SP has a lower whip and k's more . His bphr's worry me . Penny Has no bphr's , a bit better at D but his walks worry me . Can I get some thoughts on this trade possibility please? My 1st 2007 team , so I'm not sure about the cards ...yet !

I had Penny still gave up homers era over 4.50 with all the hitters in 2007 tough to stay away from hr's now I have only played 2 teams so far but I see pitchers with more k's do a little better
I had Sananta gave up 53 hr's but had era 4.26 over 250 k's and 18-13 record
I am no expert just giving you some info

[u:d93e3c42eb]Smoltz: [/u:d93e3c42eb]
42 K chances vs. righties, 21 vs. lefties
16.2 hit chances vs. righties, 20 vs. lefties.
26.4 TB vs righties, 27.5 vs. lefties
0 DP chances both ways
1.2 HR chances vs. righties, 1 HR chance vs. lefties

[u:d93e3c42eb]Penny: [/u:d93e3c42eb]
11 K's vs. righties, 20 vs. lefties
22.6 hit chances vs. righties, 10.4 vs. lefties
29.1 TB's vs. righties, 20.4 vs. lefties
11 DP's vs. righties, 12 vs. lefties.
0 HR chances both ways

Both guys have their +'s and -'s. Pick your poison I guess...

I like smoltz better...the * if nothing else. ive seen him have some eh seasons in '07, but also a few exceptional ones, better than anything ive seen out of penny.

Penny has a * this year. Don't see a big outright advantage for one over the other. Since you'll probably see more lefties against either one, Penny seems slightly better to me, but this will be more about luck than skill IMO.

I can figure everything out on these two examples except the TB. I'm assuming Total Bases, but how is that being figured? :? Thanks for any help.

I prefer Smoltz, but since Penny is tougher against LHBs you might want to look at the balance of your rotation compared to the rest of your division's parks & hitters to see if he helps or hurts your staff's overall chances.

In baseball statistics, total bases refers to the number of bases a player has gained with hits, i.e. the sum of his/her hits weighted by 1 for a single, 2 for a double, 3 for a triple and 4 for a home run

Penny in your park, unless you face a ton of RH hitters.
