2007 Beat the Boss league

Hey guys! Its that time of year, time for BTB yet again. I don't know if a league similar to this has already run or not, but hey it's always a fun concept. Here is the basic idea of the league:

1. Two teams are selected. The combined payroll of both teams must be equal to or less than the 2007 New York Yankees.
2. Yankee players can be used, but 20 players must be from the two teams that you selected and you must use at least 4 from each team.
3. We will use the Live draft feature, that way you still have a chance to use all of the players on your two teams. Kind of like a minor league system. This is something that you couldn't do in previous BTB leagues, since you were penalized money to dump guys.

Like I said these are the basic rules, if I get enough interest I will draft a more complete set of rules. Following are the 2007 MLB payrolls.

Team/Total payroll

New York Yankees- $ 189,639,045
Boston Red Sox- $ 143,026,214

St. Louis Cardinals- $ 90,286,823
San Francisco Giants- $ 90,219,056
Philadelphia Phillies- $ 89,428,213
Houston Astros- $ 87,759,000
Atlanta Braves- $ 87,290,833
Toronto Blue Jays- $ 81,942,800

If I were a Yankee or Red Sox fan, player,or employee I would bury my head in the sand. Yankee and Red Sox fan; your teams' are spending almost 8 times what The Tampa Rays are spending. And yet the Rays are in contention for the division. That is a joke! Your teams' should be the laughing stock of baseball!!!!!!

This is an excellent idea and one I have contemplated. There must be a way to do this while incorporating SOM attendance and bonusing accordingly. One could also have profit-sharing and fines for exceeding a team salary cap, etc.

This might be a good keeper league too with each team identifying 4-6 prospects with less than 100 at bats that they can carry over to next season. This would encourage us to pay attention to the on-going real season.

In any case, please sign me up as interested!
