Playing 2006 season at AT&T. Have a choice between playing Endy Chavez and Reed Johnson LF or Rf. Would be 1(0) in LF and 2(0) in RF or 2(-2) in lf and 2(-2) in Rf. I tend to go with the range, especially in big park but I would essentially lose (-4) by doing that. I know some of you have broken this down before. Please share thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I think range would come into play more times than arm strenght

Okay, keep in mind that I rarely finish over .500, but when I survey an opponent, I look at the arm to decide whether to run aggressively or not. I don't care about the range.

One thing to remember about arm strength at the corners is that it's more important in RF than in LF. Runners get a bonus to their speed rating going from 1st to 3rd when the RF arm comes into question, and the get a subtraction going from 1st to 3rd when the LF arm comes into question. I think it's 2 in each case, but I'd have to look it up to be sure. Range is pretty important though, when a corner outfielder can't get to a ball you see a lot of doubles and even some triples. Those problems are compounded further is the guy has a high error rating. I tend to favor range, I'd take a 2(+1) RF over a 4(-3) RF in most cases. I'd like to see the math though. Maybe somebody will post a link with some quantitative evidence...
