Brandon Phillips or Brian Roberts

Brandon Phillips or Brian Roberts

Postby RICHARDMILTER » Thu Jun 19, 2008 5:06 am

I have used Brandon Phillips in two different leagues. Both times at Kauffman. I love his defense, speed, and power. However is OBP is low in both leagues. .298 in a season and a half. Does anyone have an opinion on who is a better 2B for the money between; Phillips and Roberts, for a singles park? Thanks you in advance for any opinions.

I forgot to mention Brandon Phillips has stolen 40 bases, in 47 tries. This in about one full season, plus 70 games(in another league). His homer numbers are a little down but that is to be expected in Kauffman.

I would not use Phillips in Kauffman. I have had him hit 40+ HR's in a hitting park, but as you pointed out, his HR #'s will be down in Kauffman. This lowers the value that you get for him relative to his salary. I think there are other 2b where you would get better overall value in Kauffman without getting a big dropoff defensively. It is a deep position. You have Castillo, Polanco, Roberts and probably two or three others more suited for that park. I guess it would depend on what you need in your lineup or the amount of $$ you want to spend.

Thanks I prefer Roberts over Polanco for his stolen bases and lower salary. I think you are correct in saying Phillips does not fit Kauffman. Any other opinions??

So far for me, Roberts has vastly underperformed, especially in OBP.

You might take a look at a Ojeda/Carroll platoon.

In one league I just traded Phillips and Shane Victorino for Alex Rios and Kaz Matsui. Do you think this was a good trade for me? My stadium is Kauffman.

The injury roll for KazMat is a pretty risky proposition, but he makes a good #2 hitter versus righties. It really depends on what you need. You got worse on defense, but neither are a liability, and upped your hitting (vs. r some sig. gain in tbs, small gains hits and ob, vs. l it's pretty much a wash).

I know about Kaz Matsui's high injury chance. If he gets hurt for 15 or 20 games I can dump him and Mark Teahan for Castillo! I like his base stealing. Besides Phillips homer numbers were going to be WAY DOWN in Kauffman! Thanks for the tips!!!!!

Matsui stole three bases in his first game for me! Now I probably jinxed him!
