live draft strategy

When given your choice of first-round picks in a serpentine live draft, what's the best position to be in? Do you really desire the first pick or would you rather be in the middle of the pack so that only 11 or 12 players are picked in between your selections? I have limited experience in live drafts so I would be interested to hear the opinions of more experienced managers.

It can depend on which set of cards(or year) you are drafting. If there are one or two players heads above the rest in can be best to draft first. What year's cards are you live drafting?

Old TH said[quote:616f90fd5a]I definitely prefer to be right in the middle. It allows you to better prepare for your picks - you can have an idea of who will be available next round. The draft is won in the middle rounds (5th-14th), and you can really anticipate when to reach for certain value[/quote:616f90fd5a]

I agree with him. And besides he is kicking some major butt in a league I am in that had a live draft. I especially agree with the part about ; the draft being won in the middle rounds. At the beginning the picks are somewhat obvious. However I do think that depending on the set of cards you are drafting; it could be better to draft early,or it might be better to draft late. For instance ; if you are using the 2007 cards, it might be better to have the very first pick because A-Rod is heads above everyone else. And even if that means you have to pick last in the second round you will still get a great player!!! Anyway, good luck!!
