Please Help this Shea Team

Postby visick » Sun Dec 11, 2005 7:26 pm

I would dump/trade Calero for a BJ Ryan or a Mahay. Calero is good but too good for Shea. Or if you can get him, Wagner is lights out, with Guardado not too far behind.

Dessens, Halladay and Westbrook are not good pitchers for Shea. Escobar is a good rev. RH, and a bit cheaper is Trachsel. Haren is servicable as well...

When I have more time, I look at your hitters.

Well

First, get rid of Calero - for BJ ryan, Mahay - a lefty R2 R3 that kills lhh.

Starters are good.

Man, your hitting needs a lot of help.

Like the catcher and 2B. Other than that, you need everything.

I hope you had a terrible draft and this is not what you drafted.
Where do we start.

OK, look for lh power ie, gload at 1B, Koskie or Chavez @ 3B, H Matsui @ LF.

Then balance that out with rh power at the other positions with some good obp. Cheap options - b clark, dejesus. Post a link post waivers and see what you have then.

Try to trade Halladay and Westbrook for Lilly or even Madritsch if you are going with a 5 man rotation. If you can't move one or both of them then dump them for lesser LHSP like Nate Robertson, Dontrelle, etc. I would get one hard LHP like Robertson or Willis as well as a more moderate LHSP like Horacio Ramirez or the like that can also pitch on the road.

Drop Calero. Good pitcher but being a hard RHP he costs too much for a Shea team. Try to get one of the stud LH closers like Wagner, Ryan or Guaradado.

I assume Craig Wilson is your DH and Lamb is your 1B. You have to have some RH bats to Wilson is not the worst but I would like to see your team have LH power hitters and RH OBP hitters with maybe a little speed. You can't do better than Castillo at 2B. Finley is great in CF. Lamb will be fine at 1B but I like Gload or Overbay even better.

Drop Glaus as quick as you can. Try to get Chavez, Huff, Blalock or Koskie at 3B. You could platoon Jolbert Cabrera with Blalock or Koskie at 3B if you wanted to.

Drop 2 catchers. I would say Zeile and Davis are out. Your platoon of Miller and Valentin will work just fine.

ARod at SS would work and would provide great protection for your LH batters. He has quite a few regular HR on his card. I would not draft Tejada for Shea. Most of his HR are BP HR which are outs at Shea. If you decide against ARod too I would look at Royce Clayton who hits LHP decently.

Mabry or Burnitz are great for Shea if they are available.

I have to disagree with Jaydingess on one thing. I don't really like Hideki Matsui for Shea as his hitting vs LHP is pretty anemic. You will see a lot of LHP at Shea too.

Agree with most of what has been said by others above.

Santana and Glavine are good value in Shea. You need to get a couple of other good starters. Who is available?

Hitters - other than Miller, Castillo and Finley I'd be looking for alternatives. Who is available?

I like Matsui in Shea. He is obviously better against RH pitching, but probably won't face more than 30% LH pitchers throughout the season unless you get some heavy LH starting rotations in your league (in which case you should get a couple of leftie-killers in your line-up).

I would go with Drew #1, Guillen at SS, and Mauer at C. Get a couple of cheap lefty-killer platoons, then good to go.

OMG

I can't believe some of the names available after draft.

Good, lot's of options for you

First - pitching - Ledezma and Willis for the two RH - then get two cheapy 9R guys - R Ortiz & P Munro or the like

Second RP - Cut Calero for BJ Ryan or M Gonzales

THird - H Matsui, M Ramierez, Drew for OF as many of these as you can afford. Koskie for 3B, Morneau at 1B, ARod at ss. Try to stay with close to even righty and lefty so a 9L can't shut you down. Remember, you're in a lhh home run park, so you need llh with bphr and rhh with natural hr. Couple guys to get on base in the 1 and 2 hole and you're set.
